Do you believe God speaks through songs?

Have any of you noticed that God speaks through songs? That His messages are SO MUCH in secular songs of different eras and different styles? I just recently discovered that. And I thought how amazing and clever of God! So His message is not only in churches, but is out there in the world! Isn't it nice?

Maybe you could list a song or two and show what you think God is saying in it?

Don't reveal it. ( he is hiding his plans for the world, but God knows them all and doesn't need him to reveal them)

Also, the devil is like a thorn in God's side and God is tired of having to constantly watch his actions and knowing ahead of time all the trouble he will keep causing.

This song mentions September (which I believe to be the symbol of the wedding of the Messiah, because I as said Jews believe that it's the time of the wedding of the Messiah and it's their new year and Rosh Hashana. And I believe the festival itself has something to do with the second coming (symbolically).


Maybe I should mention here that in the past year I've drawn very close to God and He started to reveal Himself to me and talk to me. And sometimes He sends me songs which respond to my thoughts. So our conversation would be: I talk in my thoughts and then I come across a song which answers them. In fact, the song above (silence is golden) was sent my way after I asked God: I wonder how much satan is deceiving me and how much of my thinking is my own? (You know, when we struggle in our thoughts and hear negative and positive thoughts, I didn't know if it was just me or satan "helping out" and I believe that God answered me that satan was deceiving me by whispering some things into my head. The line: "how could she tell that he deceived her so well" would speak to that. So this next song God sent me as a promise of our love relationship. He basically was revealing Himself to me as my First Love and the songs He sends me are sometimes about love. And like this one mentions September. Which to me it means that He said: let's meet in September (aka: during our wedding)





God sent me this song at the start of my new relationship with Him and He sure kept His promise: he keeps sending dreams my way (the prophetic ones, the end times dreams) and His love in letter (through songs and things He says)

One time I was trying to "shield" God from my troubles and leave Him out of my thinking and struggles. I thought: it's not your fault, so why should I drag you into this? This is my fault, my problem, I should deal with it myself. And He sent me this song in response:

This song is not about magic as in “witchcraft”. The magic described here refers to God who can do anything. “We” is same as in Gen 1:26 and John 14:23. So in this song it says: believe that we (the Godhead) can do anything, we can do the impossible for you. And I believe that God will make our dreams come true (in eternity). So we should hold on to our dreams and He will make them come true.
There is even a song that says that (Shadows in the Night): “surrender all your dreams to me tonight, they’ll come true in the end.” In other words, as Paul said: NOW we died with Christ. But when Christ, who is our life appears, THEN we will live. Then our dreams will come true. So God is saying: for now, put your dreams on hold- surrender them to me, but don’t let them die, you will still be happy….in the right time.

God can do anything. And I believe that He follows certain laws (like of physics) available to Him to make things happen. But to us (because we don’t understand how he is doing it) it seems like magic. But God is saying that “it is YOU people that do magic”. Because (he is saying in this song: I can do ALL THIS, but I cannot do love out of nothing.)
This is not meant to be a scientific statement. This is just an expression. It means that love just happens. From God’s perspective it’s like magic. Because it just happens by itself. When two people love each other, love just happens. So this is what He means in this song below.

And in this other song, the magic is also mentioned in the same way: “”there’s a special magic in the air, when you find another heart that needs to share”. (You don’t follow laws to create love, it just happens, like magic, all by itself…

I have noticed inspiration as well, oftentimes. Especially in songs attached to emotions since those tend to be the closest to what God is, I imagine, love. But then, I expect nothing less from a Being that spoke in riddles and parables and answered questions with questions in His Earthly incarnation. God's words and inspirations are often hidden, as are His Truth, I suspect.

After all, if they were easy then being a Prophet or a Saint would have been easy, don't you think? It was always anything but easy.

Yes, I think God does sometimes speak to us through songs... and not always the songs you'd expect. But also, not every thought that comes to you while listening to a song is from God. It could be some other source, or more often just your own subconscious. So listen, and be open to God's voice if it comes, but keep your discernment on as you do.

I very definitely see what the OP means. Now, granted, I listen to a lot of music that is without doubt Christian (and carries the label explicitly), and this remains a big influence in my walk with Christ to this day. But this doesn't mean that some mainstream music doesn't have merit, as far as possessing moral and even inspirational messages. I have come to this amazing discovery just a few years ago. Now, I do understand that there are Christians who listen only to Christian music. Some may even be here right now. And I must admit that as a personal conviction, I find it quite admirable. This is because there is no denying that there is a lot of the mainstream fare (lyric-wise) that I believe to be unfit for Christians to listen to. The same thing applies to TV programming and reading material. It's simply a matter of practicing wisdom and common sense in choosing what we take into our minds. And there are a lot of notable songs that I wouldn't call in-your-face Christian songs, but have positive messages and Christian values. Such examples are I Just Want to Celebrate and Ebony and Ivory. Also, there are a lot of fun novelty songs with which I personally find no problem. Examples of such songs are Here Comes the Judge, Martian Hop, Pacman Fever and Animal Crackers in my Soup. And, of course, there are instrumentals which serves only for listeners to soak up the artistry of the music.

Everyone seems to have differing convictions regarding this issue.

One time I was trying to "shield" God from my troubles and leave Him out of my thinking and struggles. I thought: it's not your fault, so why should I drag you into this? This is my fault, my problem, I should deal with it myself. And He sent me this song in response:

I know this is an old post, but so glad I found this! I feel like God has been speaking to me through songs as well. They usually pop in my head in the middle of the night. Yes and yes again... A lot of the music I listen to is Christian, true... however, I listen to a LOT of stuff and God can (and does) use anything that can be used to lead us correctly in life. This is, I believe, more true in music than anything else. In fact, unless it is garbage music (clearly profane, anti-Christian, etc.) I would say it falls under God's domain... rendering the Christian / secular divide as artificial. Not to mention the fact that many musicians are coming from non-Christian religious perspectives and are also open to God being part of their expression (Jewish, Muslim, etc.).

The Devil does not get all the good music. The Devil gets all the bad music full of profanity, blasphemy, drugs and crude sexuality. That is what Satan gets and God gets all the good music (which is basically everything else).

Sometimes I see people acting and singing like one of the anti-types in the bible to the letter in music, it's hard to miss. Some good lessons out there that God can use.

The whole concept of a "honking antelope" would be a reference to the prophecy in Daniel that spoke of an iron beast that devoured the earth and trampled what was left under its feet. The idea is expanded upon further in Revelation stating it is powered by "the dragon" .. i.e. fossil fuels.
