Taking things out of context isn't contradiction.

(scripture interpretation)
Those that handle the Word of God need to know something about metaphors and similes. They need to be acquainted with Hebrew poetry and parallelisms. Good hermeneutics may be hard work but is an absolute must for anyone who wants to handle the Scriptures with integrity.

This is really bothering me. Why are there so many contradictions in the Bible?

"For I am merciful, saith the Lord, and I will not keep anger forever." (Jeremiah 3:12)
"Ye have kindled a fire in mine anger, which shall burn forever." (Jeremiah 17:4)

"If I testify about myself, my testimony is not valid." (John 5:31)
"Jesus answered: Even if I testify on my own behalf, my testimony is valid." (John 8:14)

You MAY have noticed that words in your english dictionary have multiple definitions. Plus you may have heard that the Bible has been translated from another language into English?

The up-shot is that the smaller the amount of text you quote out of context, the more likely that a handful of translated words will have differing meanings.
