Slightly excessive I think.

"Odd that it is easier to sue than to open a checking account and get a debit card. " a comment on the blog where i found this info, and very true.

There are plenty of banks that give free checking accounts and debit cards. Off the top of my head, Commerce Bank, which is a pretty large bank.

And I love how the CCLU skewed the story, playing the 'religion' card. They are refusing to let her "sell apparel and religious items...."

They're trying to make it seem like eBay told her, "You can sell anything you want without a checking account or a debit card, EXCEPT FOR RELIGIOUS ITEMS AND CLOTHES, HAHA." She can't sell ANYTHING without these, not just religious items and clothes.

Silly people.

I think you mean the CCLU, the Christian Civil Liberties Union, because that's what it says in the article.

And, you're right, they do just waste the court's time.

They are obviously trying to make this a race issue when it doesn't have anything to do with race. Shame on this woman and the ACLU for wasting the courts valuable time.

It isn't the ACLU, they would never have taken the case I am sure it is the Christian Civil Liberties Union.

No no, you're confusing the ACLU with the Christians ones, who are making this a race issue. Shame on the CHRISTIAN civil liberties union.

I wonder if they are going to claim that the website changed their policies because she is a Christian. I know that sounds weird, but honestly, with the persecution complex that some Christians have, I wouldn't be at all schocked that one someone would actually believe that.

My bad I misread the story. All I saw was Civil LIberties Union. I totally missed the Christian part. Anyway I did change my original post but the meaning is still the same. The CCLU should in my opinion not be handling this case.

You have no idea how hard it can be for someone without a steady income to get a banking account, not to mention a credit card!

Goggle "free checking" - result: 68,400,000 returns = Case thrown out!

Then I do not think you understand the term "free checking" There won't be any charges connected with account maintanace, but you still have to have a steady monthly income!

If you don't have that, as apparently this woman doesn't have = no checking/bank account!

There isn't some "right" to sell stuff on EBAY. For instance, you would be suprised how difficult it is to buy a house on the beach in Malibu without millions. SHould I sue the owners for not selling to me simply b/c I lack the funds?

2 Things:

1. I've never heard of the CCLU. Interesting.....

2. This lady know she is WRONG for trying to sue. lol Getting a checking account is not that hard or unaccessable. Shoot, even Western Union offers an account very similiar to a checking account (except you just get a MC/Visa debit card - no checks).

Add this to the long laundry list of frivilous lawsuits that our country is famous for! :D

Au contraire mi ami I worked and managed at a bank for 16 years, I very much know what is required to get a bank account.

Getting a bank account in the US is not difficult, and you do not need to have a steady monthly income, you only need to have a minimum balance requirement at most and at least an opening deposit. A debit card is not a credit card.
