Last year sometime was a thread about how Catholic Community Services will be forced to pay for contraceptives for its employees. As we know, one of the moral teachings of the Catholic Church is that the conjugal love of husband and wife not be interferred with by the use of artificial contraceptives. The thread wondered how then a Catholic could be forced to pay for this. It was mentioned that Catholic Community Services are simply a social service and doesn't really have anything to do with the Catholic Church--it is simply using the name "Catholic". IOW it is we who decide whether or not to give (separately) to this social organization because it doesn't enjoy the "protections" of the consience clause concerning Catholic beliefs.
I found couldn't help but recall that thread when at Mass today we were asked to pledge a certain amount of money--money that will go to Catholic Community Services (according to their own statement). So any more comments about Catholic Community Services? Are they indeed an "arm" of the Catholic Church?
