Refugees never "want" to flee -- they have to, usually because their lives are endangered.

How is this news?
It would depend on what they mean when they say they want to go home. If they want to go home because they is home, and not really concerned about the danger then that could work. Just like there are plenty of people who would prefer to die at home ( particularly if they are already terminal than be alive a few more days in a hospital.

That raises the question of why they fled in the first place -- surely they can't believe the danger has already passed?

I think he's talking about doing something about that which makes them flee. Rather than bring them to countries where they don't want to be, faced with language barriers, inclement weather, etc...

No one is forcing the refugees to go anywhere.

Good point maybe in some cases it could just be missing home where they grew up because in some cases as sad as it is in some cases war is all they have ever known.

I think what they are saying is; they would prefer to go home (who wouldn't), but they can not safely do so, which makes them refugees.

OH it is not that they do not want to be HERE pe sa but they just want to go home, and they wish they could safely do so.

Do the refugees have the option of going home safely?

I think this is why they are refugees to begin with, because they can't go home.
I think the idea is that they would like to return home. If that is the case then I can see why they wouldn't want to be shipped across the ocean where they cannot make their way home when it is safe to return.
Not only that, if they can be safe in refugee camps in the Middle Eastern countries isn't that better for them to be among their own people and culture?
It's like taking children away from what they have always known, from their families and their culture. It is never what is best for them and should only be a last resort.
America is not always the best place for everyone and it's just plan egotistical to think that it is.

I'm not buying it -- If "war is all they have ever known," what caused them to run?

Of course the refugees would much rather go home, yes. The whole point, is that it's not safe for them to. No-one leaves behind their homes, with just their children, and what they can carry, if staying home, is a sane option.

People aren't resettled against their will. The people who the UN are sending here have been registered with the UN and have requested resettlement rather then wait in a camp and hope they can go home someday.
