"The US Anti-Defamation League has named the Celtic Cross as one of the racist symbols used around the world to promote hate in their online Hate Symbols Database.

The ADL believes that white supremacist versions of the Celtic Cross, otherwise known as Odin’s Cross, Sun Cross, or Wheel Cross, have become some of the most important and widely used symbols of white supremacists. The cross consists of a square cross interlocking with or surrounded by a circle."

I'm failing to see what the issue is here. It IS a symbol that is commonly used by racist groups. The ADL is not wrong about that. From the article in the OP, it mentions that the ADL stresses that you need to take the symbol on case by case basis:
The League notes, however, that the use of the Celtic Cross as a hate symbol should be taken on a case-by-case basis. As a prominent symbol of Irish culture, many use the Celtic Cross to portray love of their Irish heritage and history, not to promote hate.

What is truly unfortunate is that the ADL imagines their ignorance will gain concession.
This is just the beginning. Open the door removing one symbol of American heritage based on the outcry of a minority number of people and all people with an ax to grind will step up for their turn.

Wasn't the ADL established to push the interests of one racial group?
Ethnic group is more accurate.

You're somewhat correct. The ADL pushes for things that are equal opportunity, rights, et cetera in the US. If other groups also benefit here from their efforts, that's neither here nor there. They do not support such efforts in Israel though. A few years ago, I came across this inconsistency on their own website when I was reading about the ADL. They ultimately want what they think is best for Jewish people.
