If you've ever wondered how people make the journey from Christianity to atheism and back again, Anne Rice offers some insights based on her own experience. She also has some powerful and moving things to say about what it means to be a Christian in her most recent book, Called Out of Darkness: A Spiritual Confession (Knopf, 2008).

How can a person turn their back on God? What could be so bad to make you just shut him out completely, isn't that faith?

Seems like she saw the evidence for religion, found it unbelieveable, choose to live her life according to facts, got scared, and hid back in the make-believe happy-endings that Christianity offers. Pathetic (if its true).

That's a little silly since she didn't write them.

It's sort like blaming Nirvana for what was the epic failure of late 90s rock radio. Sure, they influenced, but you can't help being good (I don't actually know if Rice is any good, never read a book) and its consequences in terms of imitation.

I realize all of this was unnecessary because you were being sarcastic, but I did it anyway. Deal with it!

She was never a true atheist

Exactly. :D:thumbsup:

If Baptists are right about "once saved, always saved", then the same logic holds for being an atheist. In fact, even more so, since a person must be taught religion and then accept it, so those who are atheists as adults are just those who come into a realization that they were atheists all along and had never really bought into religion, even though they may have gone through a period of confusion engendered by their cultural surroundings, having to "go along to get along" as children, etc.

I'm a living example of this, so it must be true. :);)
