My view: is based on 2 Peter 3, that the 'thousand years' is actually the day of the Lord. It's his wrath and destruction. In a snap moment before it the righteous (dead and surviving) are taken, then the final wrath is poured, then those unrighteous dead are resurrected and judged, and given to the lake of fire. There is a new heaven and earth after that, which the body of Christ inhabits for ever and ever in new, incorruptible bodies.
8But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.
9The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
And then Hosea 6, and Job 5 let us know it's very close:
Hosea 6:
1Come, and let us return unto the LORD: for he hath torn, and he will heal us; he hath smitten, and he will bind us up.
2After two days will he revive us: in the third day he will raise us up, and we shall live in his sight.
The day of the Lord has not yet come.
Job 5:
18For he maketh sore, and bindeth up: he woundeth, and his hands make whole.
19He shall deliver thee in six troubles: yea, in seven there shall no evil touch thee.
Some powerful parallels going on here. It's been 2000 years almost since Jesus. With very rough estimates of Creation having been around 4000BC, we can tell that we just aren't quite there, but we're close -- even the stars in the sky which were created as signs (Genesis 1) let us know we are close to the end of the age. We just can't put a date on it. But we're close to being delivered after the 'six troubles'.
May God guide all of us,
