    Paging Matrona.

Anyone know if Matrona is still around? I don't know what made me think of her today but I used to really like reading her posts.

    "Catholics come home" movement.

My priest had a good idea (I thought) relating to the new "catholics come home" movement in the Roman Church and has ordered a sign to go underneath our church sign that says "Catholics, come home to the Orthodox Church." Like it? Tell your parishes :)

    Bishop Mark came to visit!

He came for vespers at my church tonight and is staying for Liturgy tomorrow. He is, by the way, completely awesome. Anyone met him? It's funny that since I've become Orthodox I would rather meet bishops than professional athletes or celebrities....but seriously...meeting bishops is....amazing.

Touching the hem of the priest's vestments

I have noticed at liturgy that a couple of women have taken to touching the priest's vestments as he passes during the Great Entrance. I can understand and appreciate the reasons for this, but I was wondering if this is common practice? Do women do it in your parishes? Do men do it as well?

Rhyming hymns and watered down theology

I was listening to Gregorian chant the other day as I often do and I had a thought about hymnography in English speaking countries. While some Gregorian Chants had rhyming elements, like Tantum Ergo, most of them that I can think of do not. In the same way, Orthodox chants do not focus on...

    How is it possible?

How is it possible? How can God love us enough not to destroy us when we for centuries upon centuries defy Him who made us? How can God look upon our weakness and our disobedience and send prophet after prophet to turn us back toward Him, while we kill them one after the other? How can God...

Snarky PM's welcome. Snarky reps'.....no thanks

It should not come as a surprise to anyone in OBOB that in TAW, there are frequently threads posted in which people disagree with Roman Catholic views and *gasp* promote Orthodox theology. Since debating in either forum is not welcome, if anyone sees something said in TAW that makes them so...

    A Helper and a Protector...

A Helper and Protector has become salvation to me. This is my God. I will glorify Him. God of my fathers, I will exalt Him. For in glory has He been glorified! Have mercy on me, O God. Have mercy on me. --OW's Favorite Hymn. What is yours?

And it all comes crashing down.....

Hey guys, I need your prayers please. Time have been tough financially (I'm sure things aren't the best for a lot of you either....or all of America) and I've been struggling to keep the bills paid. Well last week my fiance lost her job, and has been applying furiously for other jobs, but...

    Moral question: Stopping murder

If you see a man pull a knife on a stranger and attempt to murder him with that knife, is it morally acceptable to kill the attacker to save the victim's life? If an abortionist goes into work in the morning to perform 3 abortions that day, is it morally acceptable to kill him on the way to...

    Got to meet Bishop Daniel!

His Grace Daniel, the new Ukranian Bishop (or the Baby Bishop as he refers to himself, since he is the youngest Bishop in the entire Orthodox Church) came to visit my parish this weekend. It was really exciting. I can't even put into words how great it was. It was like being visited by one of...

Lives of the Saints...Sayings of the Fathers

I was reading some of St. Theophan the Recluse's writings today and he, like many others, recommends reading both the lives of the saints and the Sayings of the Fathers. I don't like sitting and reading theology at my computer, so I was wondering if anyone knew if there were any books that...

    Please pray for me

I am a mess at the moment, everyone. I feel spiritually homeless and abandoned. My priest has really harmed me emotionally and spiritually. I will not get into specifics here where the whole world can read it, but he said things to me and about me behind my back to my entire parish during his...
