Ok. Got it. Not a term I had heard before.

Have you heard the Don McClean version? It is a lot more emotional. Too much so for my taste.

Nope. Idk who that is.
Sorry, I misspelled his last name. There is only one C: McLean.
He is best known for his 1971 hit "American Pie." I am sure you have heard it somewhere:

Bye Bye Miss American Pie
Drove my Chevy to the levee but the levee was dry
Them good old boys were drinking whiskey and rye singing
This will be the day that I die, this will be the day that I die.

Here is his cover of "Crying:"

I have heard that song before after all! I just didn't know who the singer was. It's really nice.
Glad to be of service!. (random Hitchhikers' Guide reference)

I am glad you like it. I was wondering if I had to alert you to that post because I was curious as to your reaction to it. Most who know me find it really odd that I like that song. But I do - a lot.
There's an old movie called American Pie too but I haven't seen it.
Um - the movie series "American Pie" has nothing to do with the song; and is probably inappropriate for anyone. I have not seen any of those movies either beyond a few clips and the trailers.
A comedy with a lot of teen age sex. So unless you are into a lot of adolescent sexual humor, you are wise to avoid it.

Oh. Ok. I had thought the movie was inspired by the song. I've never been interested in watching it. I've been listening to the Beatles more lately bc my grandparents have their albums. I like a lot of it. Their music changed a ton from their early years to their later stuff. I like Imagine a lot.

Indeed. That is the reason behind their 2 different "best of" albums - the Red album (1962-1966) and the Blue album (1967-1970)

I prefer the early stuff.
I like Imagine a lot.

Never liked the atheism underlying that tune. Musically it is great, but the lyrics are terrible IMO.

When Lennon was shot, I was driving thru a neighborhood near my house at the time. The DJ broke into the middle of the song to report the shot, and I knew in my heart he was dead. Then the dj started playing "Imagine." I remember yelling at the radio "John, do you STILL believe that crap?" and turned off the radio.

I've listened to Imagine so many times but never thought of it as atheistic. Just didn't occur to me tbh. Their earlier music is more happy. The later stuff is prettier IMO. I like I Want to Hold Your Hand, Here Comes the Sun, & Hey Jude the best.

Imagine there's no heaven
It's easy if you try

No hell below us
Above us only sky

Imagine all the people living for today

Imagine there's no countries
it isn't hard to do
nothing to kill or die for
and no religion too.

That, coming after hearing his anti-theistic rants for years, is absolutely atheistic.

There are not too many songs I turn off and will not listen to, but this is one of them. And I love most of John Lennon's music. Even the really weird stuff like Revolution #9.

He was way before my time so I never heard any of the rants. I've always just liked the song a lot. I still don't think it's atheistic but I get why you see it that way. We'll just agree to disagree. :D I've never heard Revolution #9. Will YT that now.

I am not sure that is something they would put on YT.

But it is my favorite Beatles recording of their later period. From the White Album. But not really even music.

This is from 1961. The only top 40 hit for this Nashville studio singer. It was written by Willie Nelson--one of his first songs to cross over onto the pop charts. It's a ballad of lost love, that turns a little sinister at the end. A great song.

I like the song Magic Moment.
You mean "This Magic Moment" by Jay and the Americans? (ME TOO!)

I recently heard a strange re-make of it on a tv commercial. It had a rap in the middle of it. May have been recorded specifically for that commercial.

I think I may have heard a different version of the song. It was on this show called the Sopranos. I don't watch the show but I was flipping channels & it was on. They used the song Magic Moment in this really sweet scene.

Nice.

That sounds earlier than the Jay and the Americans version - which was about 1968 or 9. That one sounded like late 50s, almost a doo-wop style. I did not see anything in the credits to say who it was.

.........[checking sources]...........

It was the Drifters. 1960. Ben E. King on lead vocal. (he had a nice solo career as well)

Thanks. I listened to some of their other songs. I like them a lot.
