She also was a heck of seamstress and knew shorthand. No one knows shorthand now. I wish I had learned it to take notes in college.

Shorthand was very helpful to me when younger, in securing many jobs.
It was considered a +plus for an office job applicant to be able to take dictation in shorthand.
I graduated from high school in 1972. Many of us majoring in business courses elected to learn shorthand.
I always thought it was fun ... like knowing a secret code language!

'Clerk-typist' was a very common job classification series within the Federal government.

I just googled it and discovered that shorthand is still being learned and used today!
But I see there are different shorthand systems. Back in the 60's/70's, it was Gregg shorthand that we learned.
