President Donald Trump announced Tuesday he is halting funding to the World Health Organization while a review is conducted.

Trump said the review would cover the WHO's "role in severely mismanaging and covering up the spread of coronavirus."

Trump's announcement comes in the middle of the worst global pandemic in decades and as he angrily defends his own handling of the outbreak in the United States.

Amid swirling questions about whether he downplayed the crisis or ignored warnings from members of his administration about its potential severity, Trump has sought to assign blame elsewhere, including at the WHO and in the news media.

[Senator] Murphy added: "It is just wildly ironic that the President and his allies are now criticizing China or the WHO for being soft on China when it was in fact the President who was the chief apologist for China during the early stages of this crisis."

On January 24, Trump tweeted: "China has been working very hard to contain the Coronavirus. The United States greatly appreciates their efforts and transparency. It will all work out well. In particular, on behalf of the American People, I want to thank President Xi!

I don't know how the reporters keep their tempers. The guy who started asking his question, only to be told that Trump knew what he was going to ask, despite the guy trying to tell him that no that wasn't his question looked like he just wished the world would hurry up and end already.

Didn’t miss it at all. Even his top two scientists were saying this. Then both Birx, Fauci and others realized this was not the case and Trump changed his tune. Are politics and diplomacy involved here? Absolutely.

Many countries jumped on the help China band wagon early on...many countries provided all kinds of medical supplies...early on...until the facts came out. The US is not alone in it's issues with the WHO and with China and the US is not the only country investigating the WHO.

No he did not. That was debunked weeks ago. The pandemic office under the NSC was added to another national security office and renamed.

Did overnight media darling John Bolton reduce the size of staff on NSC overall? Yes. Does that equate to a reduction of capabilities? No.

They correctly attributed this statement to Chinese authorities. Within a week, this error or misinformation was corrected.

All they did was tell people what China told them. Correct me if I’m wrong but they don’t have the authority to do more than that - if this happened on our soil, it would wor the same way. We’d tell them what the situation was and they’d have to take our word on it.
