Three Men Charged with Plotting Attack on Somali Immigrants in Kansas

Three men have been arrested and charged with planning to use a weapon of mass destruction in a terrorist attack on a mosque and housing complex in a western Kansas town where Somali immigrants live and worship, according to the U.S. Justice Department.

The men were part of a militia group whose members called themselves "The Crusaders," Acting U.S. Attorney Tom Beall said at a news conference. They had conspired to detonate a bomb at an apartment complex in Garden City, Kan., which houses about 120 people, many of whom are Muslim.

What a disgusting and vile group of individuals. Thank God that the authorities in Kansas were able to foil their plot before they could go through with anything that would harm others. I hope they are swiftly and severely sentenced, and that this sends a clear message to any other self-appointed 'Crusaders' out there that this is not the way that we are to behave in America. No doubt Somali immigrants came to this country with a reasonable expectation that the violence they likely lived with in their home country would not be repeated here. We owe it to them to do whatever we can to try to make it so. Arrests of this type are a good sign that our law enforcement takes such things seriously.

That's bordering on a Straw Man.

Obviously these guys are terrorists...however, if your expectations are that the world should now be just as afraid or concerned about "The Crusaders" (as they call themselves) as they are of Islamic radicalism, then your expectations are misguided.

I think you'd be hard pressed to find someone who didn't acknowledge that these guys were "extremists", "terrorists", "radicals", etc...

However, that's not what the underlying purpose of bringing that sort of thing up is... People bring that up so that they accuse political opponents of double-standards and bigotry.

"Oh, so I guess when it's white Christians groups doing these sorts of things, you don't care about it and just want to focus on Islamic extremism!!!" is the narrative that people are trying to portray.

That's not the case at all. When the severity and magnitude reach equitable levels, and people are still only focused on the Islamic occurrences, then you have a valid gripe.

Until then, it's like saying "Gee, the common cold and HIV are both caused by viruses, why are you more concerned about one than the other?"
