The more I learn about thr Anthem and it's author, thr more I wonder why a song like that was chosen as our anthem.
The atheists won't let us use God Bless America. The only other historic contender is Oh Colombia, which I never liked.

The more I learn about thr Anthem and it's author, thr more I wonder why a song like that was chosen as our anthem.

Francis Scott Key, the song writer, speaking of black people
"a distinct and inferior race of people, which all experience proves to be the greatest evil that afflicts a community."

"And where is that band who so vauntingly swore,
That the havoc of war and the battle’s confusion
A home and a Country should leave us no more?
Their blood has wash’d out their foul footstep’s pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave,

And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave."
Celebrating the deaths of slaves forced to fight for the British

But... but... but... this is America! Remember this is the land of the free and home of the brave! Remember this is a country was founded on freedom, liberty and justice for all. Remember this is a country where all men are created equal and are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Maybe we are excepted to disregard that particular verse and only focus on these perpetuated lies of America's acclaimed greatness and majesty.

I will refrain from commenting on religion but saluting a piece of cloth or a song is idol worship from a Biblical prespective.
No it isn't, but this isn't the place to really get into it. We can take it elsewhere if you want.

Who is ignoring anything? I think everyone knows the USA used to have slavery.

Why does it need to be historic?

I think America the beautiful would be a great anthem. Have no problem with God Bless America either.

Why change the anthem at all? I was listing it's historic rivals for national anthem. GBA is ok. Not really an "anthem" though. Hail Colombia is ok. Better in instrumental.

It would be funny to use My Country Tis of Thee because it would confuse British people.

But can you find anyone speaking differently at the time? The kindest seemed to think of Blacks more like children or pets. And such attitudes were not limited to being applied to blacks or for that matter to being held by whites.

The Bible also speaks of forgiveness and loving one another. By your posts, you seem to be full of bitterness and resentfulness, clearly forbidden in the Kingdom. Perhaps you should ponder those sections before pointing out the speck in someone else's eye.
Bitterness and resentfulness, that is ridiculous, I love my fellow humans and wish for them to be free, if you sense bitterness and resentfulness perhaps that is a reflection back at your own soul.id k

The point, as I see it, is that he brought some of his racism into the song he wrote, which we regard as our National Anthem, and we are offended when people don't stand up to celebrate it.

LA Marsalaise is racist, it refers to "impure blood" referring to non French. Deutschland Uber Alles is nationalistic and sexist.

At least we don't sing the questionable verse.

If we did, would you cut Kapernick a break, or does the fact that we ignore that verse make it all ok?

Why is it so hard for people to distinguish between "apologising for past wrongs" and "apologising for everything ever"?

No one said you or anyone else should apologise for founding America. America's great, I'm a fan. That doesn't magically make the Trail Of Tears, or slavery, or the Tuskegee experiments OK.

I've come to believe that people think that if an apology is made that they are obligated to feel guilt, when the only thing they need to do is help correct wrongs. Feeling guilty serves no one.
