My understanding (from friends who were there, including police), is that the peaceful protests lasted for a couple of hours, until 730 or so, then a good chunk of the protesters left and then things got violent, after the Trump rally was over. Not excusing the violence but pointing out that there was a long period of non violent protest.

accuses the right of doing: using threats of
violence to get their way. Except, nobody ever
manages to prove that the right ever does so,
while violence and intimidation are common
tactics on the left.
