Ta-Nehisi Coates Won't Move Into Brooklyn Brownstone, After Media Attention
The journalist and author Ta-Nehisi Coates said on Monday that he and his family would not move into a $2.1 million Brooklyn brownstone they recently bought because media coverage of the purchase had made them worried for their safety.

Mr. Coates and his wife used a limited-liability corporation to shield their identities during the transaction — a legal maneuver frequently used by celebrities seeking privacy — but word of the sale leaked to The New York Post, which published an article about the purchase with pictures of the house last week. Real estate and other news organizations soon followed suit.

Sounds a bit paranoid.

He's writing the new run of Black Panther for marvel and it's pretty good.
I wonder if it's paranoid as much as it not wanting celebrity. He was shocked his book did so well, and didn't feel comfortable with the attention. I mean, it's rather sick that news articles were publishing his wife's name and his children's Instagram accounts. I think part of the problem is what amounts to journalism these days, scouring people's social media accounts to write a profile about a person. I know I wouldn't want any attention.

Which book are you referring to? Colour me curious.

I think I need to pick myself off the floor, because I agree with you on something.

Hmm well I can completely understand all of that. While I generally detest most celebrities, those who don't seek the lime light and actually want a semi normal life do have my pity and my anger when I see the crud they go through.

I gotta say though, I am completely against kids having social media accounts... teach the little gremlins the importance of anonymity.

"Between the World and Me"

I'm pretty sure outside of politics we agree on many things, see it's not bad to agree with the enemy (j/k, I don't think I of you as an enemy, just someone who is passionate about his beliefs, which is good).

Ta muchly, will see about getting it.

So talk about egg on my face, despite all my ra-rahing against white privilege etc I will admit I've not read many books from the black side of things in a loooooong time. Will dip back into it with Coates and see what I think.

I'll take the moment's peace.

Because people stalking you and your family is trivial because you earned enough money to buy a nice home?

"But fame had downsides, he said: more scrutiny, less privacy and a number of disconcerting — if harmless — encounters with fans, including one who showed up at his front door. One day, he feared, an encounter could be less benign."

Like he's the first well known writer. Please.

Your post still makes no sense, did he suggest he's the first well-known writer?

Again, where does he act like new-found fame is an oddity? You argue a point that you do not back up with support.

I don't see where his concerns lie. So he goes and lives somewhere else; will people not now where?

What's the matter? Can't find anything legitimate to gripe about?

Considering the amount of time and effort it takes to purchase a home or planning to live somewhere, it's not a small issue that you are unable to live somewhere anymore for any reason. You describe it as a "first-world problem," suggesting that the issue is trivial and only people in developed nations have these issues, that is patently false. Additionally, you argue that it is okay for him to experience this because the home is $2 million, again, your argument is pure rubbish.

You still offer nothing supporting the idea that he thinks this is an oddity or that this is the first time such an occurrence has happened.

The issue is trivial. I should have such problems.

Te-Naquisi or whatever his name is should count his blessings. Let him go to a burn unit and kvetch about his "problems".
