I guess God and the Law is barbaric.

Honestly though, they were talking about sending him to ADX which would have been worse. Now hopefully he repents and finds Christ, and on that day be with him in paradise.

We are not under the Law.

And you are right, Super max prisons are also barbaric.

I know we aren't under the Law, but the Law was once a thing and God did kill people and demanded people to kill people.

What would you have done with him? Given him a 5 star suite to punish him and make him think? Some people deserve super max, like people that bomb 3 people to death, including an 8 year old he placed it next to, injuring 260 more, and shooting and killing an officer later on.

Between the tworld options, lifeel in prison. The death penalty is immoral in modern Western society. The past several Popes and the Catechism, and the USCCB all agree with this.

Indeed, the USCCB has declared the death penalty in modern society to be incompatible with a pro-life position. I will pray for the souls of the people the killer murdered, the souls of the killer, and the souls of those who advocate against the moral truths tought through the Popes and Bishops of Christ's one Church.

Super max could use some reform to make it more humane. I hear they aren't allowed to talk or even to read books in there. But that is a separate issue. That can be reformed in time. Death is permanent.

Seems no need to kill the guy when it is easily in our power to lock him up.

Mikhael, remember that when the Law was given there would have been no capability to be certain those dangerous to society would stay locked up and they had to be removed for the safety of innocents. That is not the condition we face today.

Romans 13 says that the power that be do not bear the sword in vain. Don't forget we have salvation due to the death penalty. But the death penalty was part of the Noahic covenant and separate from the law.

well I would not use the argument about "we have salvation due to the death penalty"
that would be like giving Judas credit for our salvation too.....
just.... lets not go their

your view of Romans 13 is accurate, and historically the Catholic Church has used that verse to support the State and the States obligation to use force to protect its citizens
Catholics, please remember that for centuries the Church has supported the death penalty
the argument now is not over "does the state have the right to execute prisoners" for the state clearly has such a right
the argument is "are such harsh measures needed any longer?"

I agree that they are not needed, atleast not in modern Western Nations
but we should try to be respectful to those who do not agree with us

Barbarism met with barbarism. May he repent before he dies.

The jurors are not Barbarians, they were citizens doing what they felt right. Yhey were issued orders and parameters were set by the judge. The jury sacrificed and worked hard.

I think one can be against the death penalty and yet support the decision of the jury.

Just as one can be against abortion but support an abortionist's right to kill an unborn baby...?
