Maybe, it's not like we have any problem with plain crosses--most churches and other Catholic places and objects, new and old, are covered with them--but the Crucifix is special because it depicts the principal act of our Redemption.
I don't really have a problem with plain crosses either. I just prefer crucifixes. In fact, I have a plain cross that has some names of and descriptions of God.

has anyone (Catholic) really taken note or paid attention to the Become a Christian section of the CF FAQ's. It is the "Romans Road" way of salvation. CF is promoting the Protestant view of salvation to non-Christians.

The site is owned by a Protestant, so we have to expect that. :)

Yeah, I know. You'd think they'd present the majority way--the Catholic way. Likewise, their way is also not held by the Eastern Orthodox, Oriental Orthodox, Old Catholics, Polish Nationals, most Anglicans and Episcopalians, many Lutherans, and even many Methodists, United Church of Christ members, and others. The CF path is only held by a relatively small minority.

Please remember that if you are not Catholic, you are not to debate in OBOB. Here, we are Catholic, and yes, there are a plethora of other communities out there -- but we consider them separated and incomplete. We as Catholics do not believe that membership in communities outside the Catholic faith is what Jesus designed for His people.

wow why would anyone have a problem with Christ on the Cross? I mean its kinda the point of our whole religion..

Of course it is. But Protestants say that Christ is no longer on the cross and that he is risen (as if Catholics aren't aware of that, somehow!) so the crucifix is "wrong". Which is the worst argument ever.

I like BOTH the cross and the crucifix, as should any Catholic. But any Christian would agree that its not about the wood of the cross but who sacrificed himself on the cross, which is why the crucifix is beautiful.

Anyone else think it's eerie how you can see the outline of the since removed Christ from the CF logo at the top left of the page?

And has anyone notice that now the nails in the logo don't make a whole lot of sense?

IMO, if Protestants were really interested in the part about "Jesus rising so we don't depict Him on the cross", I would think that they'd be showing the empty tomb and not the cross. After all, Christ didn't rise again from the cross--He was taken down and rose from the tomb.

Maybe we can get them to change it to the crucifix for Lent and back to what it is now during Easter season and ordinary time?
On an ecumenical board compromise is a big thing (insofar as is possible), and I think that's a splendid compromise.

Know what would really set some people back? If they knew that an empty cross makes me think of our Blessed Mother. She was at the foot of the cross when they took Him down, it was to her arms that He went...

God gave Him to Mary for the Light and Hope and Life of the world. And the world gave Him back to her bloody and broken and lifeless.

Perhaps the empty cross would be better replaced with the Pieta?

I think I will always remember that, and from now on when I see an empty cross, I'll forever think of that (as well as the doctrine of redemptive suffering and how we must each pick up our crosses.
