Hi

I was given a kit for making rosaries years ago by a wonderful lady who has since passed away, also quite a few years ago. Anyway, I can find beads where ever I go, Walmart, Joann's....just about any craft store. And I have a local craft store that orders my centers and crosses for me....they call me the "Rosary Lady" there! But, when this wonderful lady gave me the kit, she also gave me like 5 pairs of pliers, and I am on my last pair now and they are really getting dull and hard to use. I have been all over the internet looking for these type of pliers and to every jewelery store and I can't find them. They have the cutters right in them, but the cutters are not flush with the handle, it kind of sticks out, so you can cut when you make a loop.

Anyway, I found one pair on the internet that looks like the kind of pliers that I would like, but they were 26.00!! Does anyone know where to get these type of pliers for less?

Those are the ones I have. They work very well. Where I live there are pliers that appear identical to them in the beading isle of crafts at Wal-Mart, too. I hope you find some of the ones you need! It's awful to not have just the right tool when making rosaries.

Our Lady's Rosary Makers? They supply pliers, too.

I got my knotting tool from them (It even has "OUR LADY'S ROSARY MAKERS on it), but my pliers are from a department store. I use only these pliers to bend the wire, but for cutting I use a pair of heavy clippers.

I really want to learn how to make a knot rosary, I have the tool and I have tried making them from instructions...but, it didn't work. My sis-in-law knows how to make them and she said she would show me sometime, but she lives like 200 miles away.

Anyway, I was at a friends house...we were meeting this really lovely gentleman from Utah, who suffers with the wounds of Christ...and this one person had a knot rosary, but it had two crosses. He showed me, that the second cross was connected to the loop part of the rosary, by a small loop, that you could slide over the beads as you say the rosary, so if you fall asleep or have to stop for any other reason, you know where you left off! I had never seen one like that before!

I second this. When I first started making wire rosaries, I was given some needle nose pliers and the cutting part was flush. Evidentally these pliers were gotten at a local hardware store and when I had problems cutting the loop "just right" another lady told me that my problem was the flush part. She told me that I actually needed the Rosary pliers (they have little teeth that hold the wire and the wire cutters cut the loop properly.) She told me that I could get them from Our Lady's RosaryMakers. Think they had them for $15. (I'll go check. Maybe the website has a price.)

Looks like the site is under construction, but there's a phone number and you can order by mail so I'm sure you can call to ask the current price.

Yeah, I went there too and couldn't look at any of the products:sigh:

Interesting. I wish I lived near you I would LOVE to show you how to knot Rosaries. The knotted Rosaries look so wonderful. They make you feel like a monk when you pray on them lol. Go to Rosaryarmy.com and get the instructions there. Then ask for them to send you one so that you can have one for an example of what yours should look like. :) I use no tools. Just my hands! You can do it just keep at it!

I bought a pair of pliers and cutters from the beading department of a local craft store they seem to work ok, but then I am not quite sure what I am doing anyway ;)... I am teaching myself to make a rosary, I have not completed one yet, but I am getting there :) I will be so excited when I complete my first one....then I will maybe learn how to use it. I do have a knotted one that someone from the USA sent me a couple of years ago, its rather nice...

Blessings

The Our Lady's Rosary Makers site is under construction, but you can order the printed catalog, which I once did, and you can order virtually all kinds of beads, wire, center pieces and crosses for gift rosaries, and of course the mission material they are famous for.

Have you checked out Rio Grande?
Peace

The dream book (s) of jewelry makers everywhere. Rio has videos on knotting too. Frustrated me so I had to contract it out at a buck an inch. No one will get rich doing it but knotting for others is an easy way to pick up extra cash.

I think that is the thing, I just get frustrated if it doesn't work out right away! I tried the RosaryArmy instructions..what I think I need is to have someone saying to me...it's ok, just try again or just keep going! Isn't that awful!!

I bought some nylon like string from Walmart that I was using...is there a specific kind of string I should be using...maybe that will make a difference.

I also tried it without the tool and the knots get tangled on my fingernail...but I do have a tool. Now that I am talking about it, I want to try again! Thanks!!

Oh, do you make the cross too, or do you use a medal cross on yours?
