Meaning? You agree with me, or are saying I'm ethically unjustified?
If it isn't about accomplishing something or being paid for expertise it doesn't matter how much other people think you know.
It matters if they're being offended. Often offense and hurt overlap.
Whether or not people take offense to the knowledge of others is moot.
If you can demonstrate that you know something then there isn't any room for offense.
If you can't then you don't know it.
As to whether you might hurt someone because they don't like this, it's not you that hurts them, they choose it.
So, why should we care about such sensitivities? I can't change facts and it's not my responsibility to pretend that everyone is similarly familiar with them.

And your answer to the wife who asks the question " do these pants make my bottom look big " is ?
Why should we care about such sensitivities is in same field as why should we care about other people. That said, this is a question of different values, so there's no real arguing here.
No, to the contrary, it is you who always always make your outfits look classy and beautiful.
Interesting. I have long used the analogy that our knowledge is like the contents of a balloon, while our ignorance is defined by the surface of the balloon, where it contacts with what we do not know.Yes, I know what I'm talking about, but because I know more, I know less, given that the more a person learns the more he simultaneously realizes how much he doesn't know.

As our knowledge increases, the balloon expands and so necessarily does our ignorance, since we are now in contact with more that we do not yet understand. It has therefore been my goal, for many years, to ensure that I end each day a little more ignorant than I was the day before.
We simply shouldn't care about these concerns as presented, if you wish to care about the person you have to deal with the underlying cause of why they feel uncomfortable with someone who is knowledgeable.
Gotcha. I guess I would say that you can't really separate the person as he is speaking his mind from his ideas. The ideas and the person are one in that moment.
