  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Writing out books

I'm the kind of person that in order to learn something, I have to write it out a bunch of times, so when I'm studying for a test, I rewrite or type my notes a lot..

Then I was reading today and wondered why I never did that with books of the Bible...it would probably help me study them SO much more.

So now I'm curious...anyone else ever try this? If so, did it help you? Did you get a lot from it? If you haven't, would you?

Ooh no I haven't tried that, but what you described is exactly how I revise for tests - if I don't write it out, it doesn't go in - so maybe I should! I bet I would get more from it because I'd take in every verse that way.

Hmm. What book would you start with?

Much to the annoyance of lecturers and library staff i'm not able to learn through printing off pages or slides from blackboard, everything has to be scribbled out in rough, then copied up neatly, highlighted, written into bullet points and then shoved into a corresponding folder.

I tend to only write out passages that appeal to me, so they stick firmly. Sounds like a good idea though

I do that too! It's handy to take with you anywhere that way

I know! I just took some time and wrote out some of Colossians - a lot of verses have been standing out to me from the book, so I figured, why not see what else God wants to say Took me an hour for the first two chapters though


I'm like that too..Profs are always "print out the powerpoint before class" and I can't..I have to write it down myself as they say it

Writing it out is definitely rewarding, and to do so with the most important book, well...I don't know why I didn't do so sooner

I also found that it's a great way to make your hand tired.

Well, I did it to learn all the books of the Bible in order, and now, I generally do it for verses and passages.

Good song by the way!!!!!

i don't think it means taking The Bible and saying.."today, I'm going to take so and so passage and apply them to my life". i think life takes too many unexpected twists and turns for that to really work. no, i think it's God thing. i guess what im trying to say by that is The Holy Spirit will bring what He wants to bring to my attention when any given circumstance pops up, and it's my responsibility to obey Him.

I've typed out chapters of the bible before, it does help. I wanted to type out the whole bible... but I didn't get so far with that.
