Does anyone know any good websites for writers? I'm not home often so I'd like to have a site I can just quickly put an idea or two or a paragraph until I get home and am able to put them all together. Of course any other type of site is good too as long as it's useful.

Incentive: 100 blessings to anyone who shows me a good site.

www.writerbuddy.com (go to WB community for forums)
for serious writers. Lots of members there have either published something (be they short story, articles or novels) or they are - for the majority - seeking to be published. I think most of the active members are lurking in the critique forums where you have to ask to be admitted.

http://www.otherworlds.net/otherworlds.net/frameset.htm
for serious speculative fiction writers (fantasy and science fiction). The administrator is a non-fiction published writer. I like how there are rules to regulate traffic and that the group requires active participation (they drop you off the list if you don't satisfy the critique and submission requirement).

i haven't really looked at this site, but i've bookmarked it anyway. They have good website resources stickied for writing material.

oh yes! can't forget THIS site. It has very extensive links on writer communities and resources. Scroll down and you'll also find messageboards. Heaps of good links.

I like the links provided but does anyone know of any site (or program) that would help me develop my story. Example, I write a part and then let's me branch off and write details for another section or add notes for a side story or allows me to move entire sections and place them somewhere else in the story? You know, something that will allow me complete control over my story and easy editability.

That's a great idea...you're sure you don't just want to do that in Word/WP/OpenOffice? I haven't used any of these, but masterfreelancer.com, looks like what you're thinking of. Storycraft at www.software-for-writers.com has screenplay structuring in it....also writesparks.com and writerscafe.co.uk...

There's really no comparison when it comes to this. www.deviantart.com is easily the best writing site I've seen on the web thus far. It's looks like it's geared more toward art, but there's a very large writing community on there as well. While it might be a bit too large for many to get much attention, it's still a great site nonetheless.

http://snotrag.deviantart.com is my personal page there, if you want a taste of what it offers.

The reason I don't like www.writing.com is that you don't get much unless you subscribe. I'm unwilling to subscribe to anything on the Internet, at this point, so that's quite simply out of the question.

This is a website for a magnazine but Stonesoup.com is a good site to go to. You can subscribe to them and they will send you a magizine that you can send your stories into. You should also check out Frodo'snotebook.com. Can I have the 100 blessings now

So many of the writing websites I find are just trying to sell you something.

I don't have a problem with someone trying to make a profit, but I'd really prefer to find just a good writing website that isn't constantly trying to get into my wallet.
