Wow, is this forum for real?

When I first saw this forum I was totally thinking, "Oh man, these Christians are going to be tearing apart every game", but to my surprise most people here are cool about these "secular" games.

Just want to say hi and I am currently playing, BF3, Uncharted 3 and in Dec will be playing Star Wars the Old Republic.

Contrary to popular belief, not all Christians are up themselves. The ones you see on TV screaming their heads off with that "THINK OF THE CHILDREN!!!" stuff are mainly those whom are the loudest and can create controversy/ratings.

Neither was I. Count me pleasantly surprised.

I am also happy to see plenty of people around here who can recognize a game for what it is and not read too much into it.

Thanks guys for the replies.

I too have always seen it as a game and I have never shot anyone before. I havent even really been in a fight either. You would think all these games would have made me into a crazy person.

They have! You just don't realize it! You're just a ticking time-bomb of violence waiting to explode! And when it happens...we'll know what to blame!

Only kidding, but I know what you mean. I'm like the most harmless person ever...unless I'm playing a game where I can sacrifice villagers, gun down post-apocalyptic raiders, or blow up people who have been possessed by a giant sentient plant. If video game violence so easily translates into real life violence, I should at least have tried to bicycle kick someone by now!

I imagine games have some kind of effect on our behavior, even if it's subtle. (More of an effect than movies? I don't know.) But most of the criticism against gaming is just paranoia, I think.

I've been playing Grand Theft Auto for years in various formats but strangely I have had no desire pick up any sort of firearm, go car jacking and shooting innocent passers so I can rack up a combi kill streak. LOL

well i don't know what you guys know. but a lot of games have religious aspects, like xenosaga. it quotes the bible exactly. i'd play the scene to find the verse but my ps2 scratched my disks... stupid ps2 is broken.
as well as anime. like neon genesis evangelion has a lot of biblical references
but the makers views are distorted mixing christian beliefs with there religions.
other games, every dragon quest game has a male god except that he has a female daughter. just be careful what you play cause im a beast at mw2

I use to live with one of the people you describe. It was a gamer's nightmare but yea we're not all like that.

I feel bad for killing the poor villagers in fable, until they said it looks like my mother dressed me. Then I pillaged them over and over. FORCE PUSH :3 Gonna run? Lightning! But I am really nice in real life :O I swear if I had lightning powers I would only zap people in the bum a couple of times...

I felt bad when I had to kill "innocents" too. I did make sure I earned the Henry the 8th achievement though - get married 7 times and kill 2 spouses.
