  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Jesus said to her, woman believe me, an hour is coming when neither in this mountain, nor in Jerusalem, shall you worship the Father. You worship that which you do not know; we worship that which we do know; for salvation is from the Jews. But an hour is coming and now is, when the true worshipers shall worship the father in Spirit and in truth; for such people the father seeks to be His worshipers. God is spirit and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth" John 4:21-24

In his controversial conversation with the Samaritan woman at Jacob's well in Samaria, Jesus revealed to us one of the most important secrets of the kingdom. Jesus said, "The hour is coming and now is, when true worshippers will worship the Father in Spirit and in truth for the Father is seeking such." God is spirit and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.

I say this was a controversial discussion because in the first place the Samaritans and the Jews had nothing in common. No wonder the woman was so shocked at Jesus' request to be given water from this Samaritan woman. But putting all the controversies behind, I want us to look at one of the revelations brought out in this dialogue. Jesus said that there is on thing that the Father seeks.

God in heaven knows where all the wells of oil on planet earth are hidden, and He doesn't have to seek for them, neither does He have to seek for gold and silver because the Bible says that the silver and gold in all the world belong to Him. He also owns cattle on a thousand hills. But the Bible says, He seeks for one thing.

God in all His divine power still seeks for true worshippers to worship Him in spirit and in truth. When we worship God we attract heaven unto earth. We make a connection between the mortal and the immortal between the human and the divine. The heart of God is attracted to sincere worship. The history of Israel shows us that the greatest king of Israel was a shepherd boy who discovered the secret of worship.

David while still on the back side of the desert in his formative years as a teenage boy while tending the sheep of his father Jesse, in the lonely moments of his life he would pull out his flute, play the songs of Zion worshipping the one he loved. This process led David into a place of divine intimacy with the God of heaven and earth. When the prophet Samuel was told to go and anoint a king in the place of Saul, he looked at Eliab, David's elder brother and thought in his canal mind, 'Behold the anointed of God.' But God had already selected His chosen one, David the anointed one. The one that was not noticed, the one that probably Jesse did not think deserved to be gathered among his sons when he got the prophet's message that he was preparing to anoint the king of Israel.

When we worship God, even in the most secret places of our private lives, God almighty will vindicate us in public as His giants. Many people seek to become great speakers or preachers, but one of the great secrets is to learn to worship God in our secret, quiet and private lives. Not to impress people, not to become great but this leads us to fall gradually in love with the greatest of all. The one who the Bible says that He is the promoter of all men. Not that we are seeking for greatness or promotion, but who wouldn't want to be in love with God almighty and there is nothing that takes us into the presence of God, into intimacy with God like worship.

Besides, God also longs for that moment when His children open the door of fellowship with Him through worship. Revelation 3:20 say, Behold I am at the door and knock; if any hears My voice and opens I will come in to him, and will dine with him, and he with me. This is the heart of the Father, waiting for intimate worshippers to open the door through their sincere worship. God is eagerly knocking and waiting to be let into our private lives, into our quiet times to have fellowship with us His children. How I pray that we will all be challenged to spend more time with Him and that it will be our heart's desire and one of our life's passions to seek His face on a daily basis.
