Eric Clapton didn't start till late in life,for a great guitarist anyway....I think you should learn to play an instrument. Its never too late. Jack Black of Tenacious D and School of Rock fame did not start playing guitar until he was 23. Turns out he had a lot of untapped talent. Usually someone with such a high interest in all sorts of music such as yourself has some sort of aptitude for an instrument. Otherwise you probably wouldn't be drawn to it and you'd be satisfied by crappy pop.
