I'm just laughing insanely as it seems the start menu in Windows 8 will probably come back... In Windows 9. Yep, they want you to pay to get something that was included in Windows 7 - let's face it, they will market it as a new feature in such a way that most of the gullible users will go out and buy it. Stupid users, niche market...

I guess this will increase the exodus to OSX or Linux

Nice one Microsoft, carry on killing your business. Mind you, it may not be such a big problem as I read recently that sales for Windows 8/8.1 are actually lower than Vista sales for the same time period.

I went from Windows 7...to Debian Linux when I saw how ridiculous Windows 8 was (why would you group items on the taskbar?!?!?!?). After almost 3 years of using Linux, I'm back to Windows again.

Linux was good...but the Linux version of the ".NET framework" and tools were so awful and slow that I had to come back to Windows.

I kept away from all stuff related to Mono right from the word go as I knew it was not a good idea and was a complete waste of resources IMHO.

You do raise a valid point (as others have done) in the fact that there might be one application that stops people from adopting Linux full time as they cannot run that in Linux or run it with ease. I've always maintained that Windows/Linux/Mac should be exclusive to each other although Linux and Mac have a similar heritage so there is some crossover anyway.

Windows 9 wil come with facebook, twitter, myspace all preinstalled (joke). I hate smartphones, who wants to be locked down to a platform! Too bad the smartphones overtook the UMPC (ultra mobile pc) market.

I miss the simplicity + productivity of fluxbox, geany, and apache.

Or you can just throw windows 8 away and either go back to windows 7 or install a good linux.
Pastor of our Church asked for me to help him get the printer working. He had upgraded the Church Computer to Win 8.1, and now the printer doesn't work. Got it going temporarily on a different port, but that failed in a couple days.

The pastor did the upgrade without making the System Disk, so I understand it is just about impossible to go back. Is that true?

How much trouble is it to go back to Seven or something else? Thanks for the help.
