• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I really am curious about why it seems God is so quiet. When I first became a christian, it seemed like I was learning things left and right and now nothing. I really have been feeling very down and needing guidance and for God to provide clear direction and He has told me absolutely nothing. I don't know if I am missing something that he has already told me or what?

Just wanted to vent for a second. I really have been down the last few days and tired.

I kind of felt like that just recently. What I did was I went for a drive around town. I turned the radio off, and I just relaxed my mind. I didnt think about anything. I just drove around in complete silence (save for the road noise), saying "God, tell me what I need to hear." I think what I took away from it was that a lot of times to really hear when God talks, you have to put in the effort to listen. For example, to just lay down, close your eyes, relax, and just try to listen for anything he has to say.

If I still dont feel anything, I call God on it. I say "You said that if we look for you, you'll come to us. Make good on that promise." At some point I learned not to be afraid to be stern with God, and a lot of times it helps. Like if I'm praying and it just feels like the prayers arent leaving the room, I'll be like "God, listen to me!" Just so long as I never lose the respect, I think its ok.

But back to your original situation, I would just relax, and really put forth the effort into listening. And even ask God to open your eyes to anything that you might be doing wrong, because sometimes theres something between you two that you didnt even realize.

I know how you feel when sometimes it seems like God is quiet when we want to hear his voice the most. I believe that God is always ready to speak to us, and maybe He is speaking, but we aren't listening.

Here are some suggestions... Spend quality time worshipping God and studying His word. Meditate on His word during the day. I have learned so much from meditating about God's word daily. Roll God's words over and over in your head and think about what they mean. When I do this, I learn so much and see things I didn't see before and it gets me so excited.

Remember that even if you don't feel like God is there, He always is. He promised to never leave you or forsake you. Don't be discouraged.

I also think that God's direction will become clearer as you do whatever you find to do for Him. Has God put any opportunities to serve Him in your path? Get busy serving God and He will steer you in the right direction. (It's easier to steer a moving car ) As you put your heart into serving Him and doing what He gives you to do, He might just gradually steer you in the direction He wants you in. It doesn't mean He isn't speaking if He doesn't drop the answer in your lap. Maybe He wants you to seek Him for the answer.

Hope this helps.

You can do all things through Christ who strengthens you.

P.S. One of the cool things I learned from meditating... Psalm 1 says "...and in His law he meditates day and night. He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither, and whatever he does shall prosper." I was going over and over Psalm 1 in my mind and I realized that we are the trees. God's word is the river of water. When we continually meditate on God's Word, we are continually watering ourselves, this makes us grow strong and bear fruit. If we stop meditating on God's word, it is like the river stops. But when we are continually watered we get stronger and stronger. (If we want a plant to grow strong, we water it every day, not once a week!) The ungodly, however, don't meditate on God's word and they dry up and blow away when any wind comes. (like the chaff which the wind blows away!) I was thrilled when I first realized this and understood it!

Thanks, I am trying to pray more and get into the Word more. I am doing all I can and asking God to open whatever doors he wants to when he wants to.
