Yet we don't see it implemented into law until Exodus, the 10 Commandments. Or was it assumed before Exodus and done automatically by God fearing people back then? I found it odd to do a word search for sabbath in Genesis and find nothing.
and then explain why God had to instruct them not to have other gods and why they built an idol and began to worship it? Seems that they were not previously practicing the worship of the God of Abraham. They were fourth generation descendants of Abraham over 200 years later when they went to Egypt.
They were not slaves in the beginning, it was about 50 years before they were put into slavery by a new king who did not know Joseph.
They carried their religion with them, taught it and practiced it in Egypt.
They did not leave Egypt as pagans and have to be educated in who God is.
They were delivered from Egypt as God foretold Abraham, to be given the land of Canaan and to set up a nation of God's people, to move into the next step of God's plan of salvation for mankind.
That is what Sinai was about, the law given to reveal the meaning of sin, its consequences (death, Romans 6:23) and its remedy in blood sacrifice.
Previously addressed. . .Actually no. I quoted Hebrews 3:8-19 to Hebrews 4:1-11 to show that these scripture disagree with you. Happy to discuss and show why they disagree with you in detail if your interested. Do you know why these scriptures disagree with you? Once again your post here is non-responsive and does not answer a single question in the post you are quoting from that are in disagreement with you. Again, how can God's Sabbath be a shadow law of anything when it points backwards as a "memorial" (Remember the Sabbath day - Exodus 20:8) to the finished work of creation *Exodus 20:11 and not forward to things to come? Think it through. There was no sin and no plan of salvation given to mankind because there was no sin and no "shadow laws" that point forward to the coming of a Savior from sin because there was no sin *Genesis 2:1-3? Your post and claims here are not biblical or supported in scripture. Your mixing up God's Mosaic "shadow laws" given after the fall of mankind with God's eternal laws that in the new covenant scriptures give us the knowledge of what sin is when broken *Romans 3:20; Romans 7:7; 1 John 3:4; James 2:10-11.
Making up the rules as you go. . .boot-strapping your way to your personal theology. What is holy to God should not be profaned by man, so we would still be obligated to keep the Sabbath holy even if God had never commanded anyone to do that.
The same reason he had to instruct them on murder, lying and adultery; i.e., because he was giving them his code for their conduct.and then explain why God had to instruct them not to have other gods
If you're referring to the golden calf, they built it as an image of Abraham's God whom they worshipped.and why they built an idol and began to worship it? Seems that they were not previously practicing the worship of the God of Abraham.
It's not that they weren't necessarily worshipping the God of Abraham, but that (some) were worshipping other 'gods' in addition to God, even going so far as to have these 'images' of other gods in their homes.and then explain why God had to instruct them not to have other gods and why they built an idol and began to worship it? Seems that they were not previously practicing the worship of the God of Abraham.

Golden CalfThe same reason he had to instruct them on murder, lying and adultery; i.e., because he was giving them his code for their conduct.
If you're referring to the golden calf, they built it as an image of Abraham's God whom they worshipped.
It pointing to that full-time salvation rest in his one and only beloved Son, where we would rest from our own work to save, and in his coming and exceedingly costly work which saves.
We rest full-time now from our own works to save and rest completely in his work which has saved. We can have the assurance of salvation through Jesus .... the reality of it (full time as you call it) doesn't happen until He returns.
Hebrews 3:7-4:11 is talking about two different rests, one physical, the other spiritual:His word is clear .... Hebrews 4
6Since, then, it remains for some to enter His rest, and since those who formerly heard the good news did not enter because of their disobedience, 7God again designated a certain day as “Today,” when a long time later He spoke through David as was just stated:
“Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts.”
The rest by Joshua spoken of here is the physical Canaan rest from their enemies (Joshua 1:13; Exodus 33:14; Deuteronomy 12:9-10, Deuteronomy 25:19), into which they refused to go in Numbers 14, and paid a high price, denial of Canaan to that generation, and which rest was fulfilled in 1 Kings 5:3-4, 1 Kings 8:56.8For if Joshua had given them rest, God would not have spoken later about another day.
That is the disobedience regarding the Canaan rest from their enemies.
