I've been researching that a little the last couple of days. The Bible does not say that Paul's name was ever changed. It refers to him only as Saul, also called Paul. Scholars seem to think that Paul actually had both names due to his dual citizenship of being both Jewish (Saul) and Roman (Paul). It is thought he began using the name Paul for a couple of different reasons. First, to separate himself from the life he had led of persecuting Christians (as Saul). Secondly, to emphasize his Roman citizenship as Paul, which we see him doing in the Bible in order to take advantage of this during times of trouble.Actually what I am teaching is that Jesus called Peter like He did for Peters benefit and not that of the church.. Peter was the Apostle sent to the circumcised.. Paul was sent to the gentiles. We see also that Paul was Saul..What significance does this have?
