Shalom Ger!!!! I hear ya. Also remember the early Christ-ian church persecuted and killed many that did not agree with the Dictates of the ruling heirarchy and their interpreations of the NT. Thoughts?

Much of the worst stuff christains did came during the years of the Reformation, when European culture was highly focused on truth as the ultimate issue -- affirming the truth was the way to heaven, and anything short was eternally threatening. I don't see that attitude as indicative of Christianity during all the different stages of the Church in history.

However, the anti-semitism among Christians that led to the persecution and deaths of Jews was pretty constant until the advent of the holocaust. THAT was the issue that got under my skin, until I could take it no longer. It was largely over this issue I became convinced that G-d in fact was NOT leading the Church, and I left it.

The above paragraph is not meant to attack or deride Christian faith, as I hope Christians will be the very best Christians they can be. It is meant solely to answer your direct question.

Good point, but I guess "love" and " respect" are two different thiings

One thing I find really cool about human nature is that we have unlimited capacity to love. Love isn't something we have to dole out, it's absolutely limitless.

I understand fully and thanks for an honest response.
I have never really studied early church history that much nor even read much of the early ECFs writing that most of Roman Catholicism and the Orthodox seem to go by and maybe I should look more into it though they do have a board on CF about it:

Shalom and Love to you and yours.

...................As a final point I have to ask how, after those early churches embarrassed everyone by reading Daniel in an uncritical way and being gullible about the Bible, and prophecy in particular, you really have to wonder why any other modern church would want to do the same thing, repeat the same mistake, and embarrass themselves in the same way as those early churches did. It turns out that there are certain things you can learn by not taking the Bible literally all the time, and this lesson is certainly one of them.

I think it is partly because there is such ignorance about Islam. People don't know hardly anything about the religion of Islam and so they hate what they don't know. If only people would take the time to study that which they don't know, they probably wouldn't hate it as much as they do.

What a great idea. I have 2 copies of the Quran and have read the Quran. Have you, oh person who has been a Muslim for less than a day?

Please don't drag that into this discussion. I'm asking nicely.

I have read parts of the Quran but not all of it. And I don't understand why you feel the need to constantly flame me. Isn't that just a little bit rude?

I don't understand why you would proclaim that you're Muslim but didn't even finish reading the essential scripture.

I would agree. I have never read the Koran or even the Jewish Talmud and I would say ingnorance of something can cause more fear and perhaps animoisity towards others than knowledge of a religion.
I tend to try and get along with all religions [and denominations within Christianity itself ] and like the old proverb says:

"better to keep silent and thought a fool than to open the mouth and confirm it"

I was a Christian for 13 years and never once read the entire Bible.

Shouldn`t you as a former Baptist and fundamentalist Sola Scriptura have read all the Bible several times? Even as a Catholic you would have read and heard the Bible read in Church.

I am a former Muslim and have read the whole Quran several times both in Arabic and in English and Norwegian translations. I had to flee my own country because my former husband and his fellow Muslims have a duty to kill me as an apostate. Have you heard about honor killings?

Maybe that's part of the reason you are having such difficulty with your faith. I would recommend that you do read it, from beginning to end. Where you have difficulty understanding something, ask a question to someone you trust has good sense and understanding of the scriptures.

I don't know, I find that odd....I would think someone would read of their religion's scripture before embracing it.

Is there any evidence from the Qur'an and/or authentic Hadiths that support honor killing?

http://www.answering-islam.org/Silas/apostasy.htm

You can check out this link. Among the scholars there are many different opinions about this, But the fact is that some muslims believe that apostates should be killed, regardless.

And it doesn`t matter to me if 99 muslims mean that this is wrong as long as there is one who is convinced that killing an apostate is a good deed. It only take one person to kill another. Believe me I did receive several threats on my life. Even my parents and other family were harassed for a while.
