  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Oh gosh

All I can say is, "thank heavens for the adage: 'one step at a time /one day at a time' "

If a 'step' [any step] is not completed, in the 'one sitting'
then almost all 'else' must await it's being completed, BEFORE engaging the next

With regard to the video
I can see, what, can so-easily occur, to 'multi-taskers' where, the end of day dilemma
is then the result of unfocussed attentions that could so-easily make better-use
of better organisation _iow: we do not 'need' to go that way [?]
Or, did I miss something ? ~like 'alzheimers'

Perhaps, I ought best, to read MORE, of other's experiences
for presently, I would feel very uncomfortable
to find myself being so ill-equipped to cope with such days

The video was funny because I see things as she did, but while I can digress briefly, I DO get the chores completed that I planned.

If I come across a chore I can't do quickly, then I ADD it to my 'to do list' for another day

Occasionally I forget what I went into a room for but will recall it soon enough.

On a serious note...if a person is truly like her with nothing done, then they do need help

Hi Shirley Sis'

I felt it was a very accurate depiction of the 'state' of her mind [actually]
Mind you, had that video been 'for real'
the narration would most certainly NOT, have been from her

I recall, that the more my Mother succumbed to the 'condition' in which
her cerebral infarctions created for her
so her awareness of it, also depleted
I felt, that it was a blessing being-gifted upon her [?]
That she, was being relieved of any need to suffer [to be aware of that 'loss']

just saying, how it appeared to me toward the end of her time with us

Me too, everything gets done...a miracle happens every day...LOL.

Oh for sure... Shirley Sis'

Some things, come-together [here]
with me 'seeing', my contribution, as being, just about minimal
and me, asking myself, ~just HOW I could deserve, to be so-blessed

sometimes... even multiple miracles in one day

Hi Gail Sis'

While I too, have seen much of that kind of behaviour modification
With each task that is begun, then, being interrupted by the next task in the schedule[?]
It would indeed be too dreadful, were we to be conscious of it occuring to us [?]

We are seeing 'something similar' at this time, with Mary's friend 'Joyce'
In her high 80's and not so mobile these days ~she insists on remaining independant
But is totally dependant, upon cleaners and care-givers, for her continued existence

Just yesterday, her dog got out as a carer was leaving, and wouldn't return to her calling
So, she phoned me to go fetch him
I walked around the corner and saw him on the green beside the church
I called out his name and he returned to his now-closed front door
had it been open, he would have come home by himself

Joyce now sleeps in the living room [downstairs]
and has a commode, because she cannot reach the upstairs bathroom
Her carers see-to cleaning that potty out

Ideally, she needs to be admitted to a nursing home
where she could receive the level of care she is dependant upon ~but will not admit, to needing

She has taken to calling us on the phone [at, all hours] indeed, regardless of the hour
She has had me around at her's three times, in as many hours
and becomes very irate, if, when she calls, I am on my way out somewhere else
Joyce is almost 'stone-deaf' and cannot hear at-all when she doesn't wear her hearing aid
Despite having a special telephone unit, I am forced to shout slowly down the mouthpiece
and rarely manage to get her to hear me and she will often, slam the handset down
in her frustration and anger... my conscience gives me 'gyp'

If Joyce is a 'trial', then, I may fail this lesson

Sorry, I didn't mean to sidetrack the thread

Me too...and I did clarify my OP because I am not as bad as she is

Let us hope we [all of us] don't become as badly afflicted
as the video shows, ~it can become

We could, otherwise, become 'buried alive' in incomplete household tasks

Oh and I thought her home was pretty clean and tidy in the video
>despite her handicap [?]

I don't think Shirley meant to make light of those who truly are afflicted by mental changes as those you have mentioned....it was just a humorous video reflecting how we can be forgetful and side tracked as we age.

Like you have experienced with your Mother and Friend, I also have a brother-in-law... who at just age 55 is incapacitated by early onset alzheimers...and my MIL also had dementia before she passed; many Golden Eagles have had loved ones suffer similar.

Surely these souls have our prayers and concern.

The video (as I perceived it) was just a light hearted look at the changes we encounter...and while humbling at times, we must also keep a sense of humor about how we are as we age.

May God bless your kindness toward your neighbor, and may she always receive the care she needs.

The clip reminded me of a Sunday a few years ago when, after church, I arranged to meet a friend that evening to show him my recent holiday photos (of the USA as it happens). As I left the building I remembered that the final film (it was that long ago!) was still in my camera, so I decided to get it developed. On the way to the developers I decided to pick up petrol, but the queues were so long I gave up. After waiting for an hour for the film, it was found to be blank. (The spool hadn't wound it on.)

When I got home I realised I was too late to visit an elderly lady I usually saw on Sunday afternoons. I also found out that the petrol tanker drivers were on strike! That evening my friend cancelled. The next day I went down with a cold, so it was just as well I didn't visit the old lady as she was very frail.

At work my boss asked me what sort of weekend I had had. I told him "Yesterday I got a photos developed which didn't exist to show a friend I didn't meet, in the process trying to get petrol in a strike which I didn't know about, and not getting time to visit a frail old lady, thus not giving her a cold I didn't know I had." His reply: "Sue, all your days are like that!"

I thought you knew by now. Nothing gets done because, in order to get one project done, two other projects must be done first before the original project can be completed. Anybody who has ever engaged in home handyman work knows this all too well.

That quickly leads to another truism: Nothing is more permanent than a temporary solution. You put together something that gets the job done well enough to work, but it's temporary until you can do it right. Twenty years later you still haven't gotten around to the "right" way since the temporary solution still works-- at least sort of. I had "The Mighty Wall of Cardboard" separating the cargo section of my van from the driver's section for the longest time. It was temporary, of course, until I could put in the proper equipment-- but it worked well enough that it stayed like that for several years, until my situation changed and the cardboard wall was no longer necessary.

I found seven reasons [tonight] as to why, things don't get done

1. No clear goals
Without a specific sense of purpose, it’s impossible to effectively manage
and organize your priorities.
If you don’t have a clear idea of where you want to go, any road will take you there!

2. Lack of priorities
The best to do list ever written is useless if it hasn’t been prioritized.
Most people naturally work on the easy or fun things first.
They may cross off majority of their list, but miss the most important items.

3. No daily plan
Beginning your day without a plan of action
is a formula for spending all day doing the wrong things.
It invites anyone and everyone to interrupt your activities.
You will passively allow unwelcome intrusions, because you’ll have no way to defend yourself.

4. Procrastination
It sometimes seems like a good idea to put things off for tomorrow.
After all, tomorrow is another day. But it catches up with you!

5. Personal disorganization
No matter how organized your priorities are or how effective your daily plan is,
you may be losing irretrievable time searching for things
that are lost in the messes on your desk, in your files, closets
and even your car!

6. Perfectionism
Are you unable to complete and release anything… until its perfectly done?
Can you still see ways for something to be done better?
Even if you can’t see anything, does it nag you that there must be something you overlooked?

7. Interruptions
Your day can be going according to schedule
until a friend drops in or a game of warcraft commences.
Many of these occurrences can be eliminated, those that can’t,
MUST be controlled.
