Isn't it said somewhere in the bible that the body is a temple? Considering the harmful chemicals unleashed in marijuana smoke is, well, harmful, then isn't that enough to prove it is a sin?

Kind of...but then you'd have to stop eating fatty, sugary and salty foods and coffee as well...not only that but you'd have to move to a little country town with no pollutants in the air...to completely fulfill that scripture!

Im not sure how true these statements arebut the point is that many unbelievers view Christians as hypocritesdo as I say not as I dokinda thing.

Kinda reminds me of when I was in backslidden state and hangin out in barsinevitablya conversation about Christ would ariseand even though I had turned my back on GodHe certainly had not turned His back on me and brought me to remembrance of Him and His concepts and preceptsin the conversation it would always occur to me what a bad example I was settingtalking about Christ while drinking beer and slamming shots of tequila

EventuallyI would have to confess to whomever I was talkingdont pay any attention to meIm a poor example of a Christian and Im the last person you should be talking to about God. That would end the conversation because in my mindI had no right to proclaim Christ in such a state.

Same with weed...drunk or high...I consider our witness is damaged.

This is what I have been trying to say before we got onto the sorcery bandwagon.

When one smokes pot, they run the risk of it becoming a habit and for it to become a lifestyle. This lifestyle is not God honouring and certainly not a good testament of God's work in you. They show themselves up for being no different to the unsaved and thus are not good witnesses of Christ and the His gospel.

the bible permits the enjoyment of nature, such as drinking and eating, but when taken to excess, it becomes sin, so no, marijuana is not sinful, its legal status is relative. It's actually safer than alcohol or tobacco because it is not addictive, and one cannot overdose. It's certainly safer than many perscription drugs.

Yes it is addictive! It can also cause long term mental disorders.

nope, its not addictive and it doesn't cause mental disorders. They can exaggerate existing mental conditions, just like alcohol. Studies have disproven the claims made by politicians back in the 30's and again in the 60's 70's and 90's. people CAN become dependant on anything however, such as addictions to gambling, eating, or world of warcraft *snerk* but that doesn't mean they in themselves are addictive like tobacco and alcohol.

It was originally made illegal in the 30's to harass the mexicans who smoked it, and again in the 60's when the government thought it was making the youth rebelous.

And I don't actually smoke it, I'm more or less annoyed by false claims about its dangers and history, and feel it should be legalized and regulated like the other plant byproducts because non-violent drug offenders are needlessly clogging up the justice system. If it really was as bad as everyone says, Canada and The Netherlands would have collapsed a long time ago

Believe what you want to believe but yes it is addictive...and yes it can cause mental disorders....my cousin has been both addicted and as a result has a mental disorder...so believe what you want...I know better because I've seen it myself.

Science has pretty much shown that THC doesn't have addictive qualities. Mind-altering, yes but not addictive.

There's also a lot of questions surrounding if it causes long term mental problems. In several studies "heavy" smokers (several years, on a daily basis) appear to regain all of their mental function after they cease smoking for about a month.

In the US marijuana was largely a victim of backroom deals during the prohibition era. The alcohol companies needed a scapegoat in order to become legal again so they poured billions of dollars into getting marijuana listed as a controlled substance. In other words they bought a lot of politicians off, and the rest as they say is history.

Well that hasn't worked on my cousin...and all you have to do is look around to all those who are living in the 'lifestyle' to see our addictive it actually is. They HAVE to have their weed....they GOTTA have it and they will move mountains to buy the stuff so they can be stoned and forget about their problems again and again!

the same for those addicted alchohol and tobacco, yet they are legal. Moderation is key. Perscription drugs can be mind altering and more dangerous even when taken properly. A friend of the family nearly died a few weeks ago because of a sensitivity to the dosage of blood pressure meds they were given. *shrug*

Why are you using my post as a quote in that? My opinion is that it's addictive and can lead to a lifestyle that is not God honouring...that's always been my stance....I don't understand why your point is directed at me.

Cannabis isnt physically addictive, but it often turns out to be very psychologically addictive. I know from both first- and secondhand experience. In any case, it's not the physical addictions that are hard to break, not even with opiates (the movies tend to exaggerate the withdrawal symptoms).

Alcohol, too, can be extremely addictive, though it would probably take you at least six months of heavy drinking to begin getting physically addicted to it.
