  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Why does one need to conform to a religion?

A person doesn't need to believe in a religion. They can simply believe they are the truth. Of course, that won't get them to heaven but if that's not their goal, then they don't have to grow. Afterall, one can't grow if they have all the answers.

who are you to decide who gets into heaven and who doesn't? There are thousands of other religions that preceeded christianity...so christianity isnt the "only way" like you were mislead to believe. i read on chick publications, a fundamentalist evangelical christian website, and they critize other christian religions (roman catholicism)!!! now how the hel do you expect me to take seriously a christian religion that looks down upon other christians, as well as jews and muslims? remember judiasm came before christianity.(hence the old testament coming BEFORE the new testament)

Christianity and the Marines have something in common. both think theyre all the biggest and baddest, when in actuality, they are branches BELOW another service..

Marines is just below the Navy,

and christianity is just below Judiasm.

the marines didnt create the Navy, the NAVY CREATED THE MARINES!

and likewise, the christians didnt come before other religions, it was CREATED BY JUDIASM!

do your history!

Carico, thank you for the off topic remarks. Youre first two statements were fine but why do you always feel the need to troll and do some bible pushing at the end of your posts? it detracts very heavily from any potentially worhtwhile comments that you might have.

But, as to my opinions, i would say that religion is entirely personal. Mainstream religions are merely the congrugation of these people who happen to share these same beliefs. Some people have outside beliefs but still choose to call themselves part of a mainstream religion because it gives people a good starting point for interpreting their views. Others whole heartedly agree with the mainstream ideas as well as gives a sense of security by seeing others practice the same rituals/rites/beliefs, and those who dont simply practice spirituality as they see fit.

Thats just it tho.....no Marine is gonna readily admit theyre below the navy....just as no christian will readily admit that their religion wasnt the first and is not the one only way.

Couldn't agree with you more, in fact, one of the most famous Christian Reverends made the same statements about his very religion, the honorable Dr. Martin Luther King.
