  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Again, do some research. In the USA, you will find that the fastest growing 'religious view' is that expressed by those with no religious belief. So, what purpose? To encourage that growth for one.

And how, pray tell, does one "create strife" by simply rejecting the claims made by another? Shouldn't the claimant be called to task to support his claims with evidence?

It sounded like you were trying to say I suffer more then most people and my reply to that is: I don't think so. Even if that were true and your a Christian then you should rejoice that your reward is going to be greater because we are not saved by works.

What you are describing is actually the lack of religious teaching. Christians dont follow the doctrine they are given. They instead follow politicians, some of which are Atheists. Seeking the kingdom means to forsake our earthly citizenship. Politics will not help us become spiritual people but will only cause us to engage in strife which is contrary to true spiritualism.

Don't blame my faith, blame people who don't follow it.

The irony is that you are guilty of the same thing you accuse me of. However, i dont shape my political views on scripture, i use scripture for my personal life. I dont try to force it on others via politics.

Eternal life requires spiritual food. Then you can enter into eternal life and life "forever".

He does extend lives for those who follow His commandments. We are given 70 years or if for reason of strength 80. After that you can add years up to 120. For example if children are obedient to their parents: "2HONOR YOUR FATHER AND MOTHER (which is the first commandment with a promise),3SO THAT IT MAY BE WELL WITH YOU, AND THAT YOU MAY LIVE LONG ON THE EARTH.…"

Miss-statement. Atheists, in varying degree, think that it would make the world that bit better to have fewer people with strong beliefs in a deity (and who act accordingly) when no deity exists.

We'd reduce the problems of inter-religious conflict, and of a preference for fixed dogma about humanity over actual observation of humanity, for a start.

We wouldn't be "getting rid of God" as God never existed. It's the human beliefs about that, now there's the rub.

So my friend who was cut down by a drunk driver, in his mid twenties, two months after his marriage, must have been a bad Christian?
Easy enough to try and call after the event.

No, I've seen too many instances where this "live long and prosper" simply hasn't happened. Quite the opposite, in fact.

It doesn't ring true.

Even if it happens to be what makes people happy, to use your line of thought?

Discussion is war?
Difference of opinion is war?
And questions get regularly asked of atheists here: that would be silly if there were none.

Yes, this could be made a Christian-only site: many such exist.
But then you'd have to do with only peculiar projected images of atheists which, oddly enough, rarely have anything but the most tenuous connection to real examples.

Live long and prosper is a quote from Star Trek, but i assume that it was just a nice way of referring to the abundant life that Christ promised, which you used. The abundant life is eternal life, its not about living long on this earth. If that were true then none of the early Christians would have been killed for their faith when Rome and Israel persecuted them.
