Why do you pray?

As a Calvinist, I believe God is completely sovereign, and therefore I can do nothing to change His will. I have to admit also that sometimes I despair at not being able to change His actions. I can get in quite a rut wanting to intellectualize about the "futility" of prayer at times.

But there comes a point when my soul instinctively cries out to God, wailing in pain, and running into the arms of my Savior.(I can't help but get misty while I write this. ) I can't describe it. It's an absolute urge that I cannot resist. I am elementally compelled to cry out to my Savior. I just can't explain it. It just is.

jimigold your not the only one. I talk to him all the time. Sure when you tell people that some think your crazy but I think it's really a good thing to do. He does find ways to answer back too even though it my not be right away that it happens.

the reasons i pray: i pray to confess my sins and ask for forgiveness, i pray to give thanks, to praise, to worship. i pray for other people, for intercessory (sp?). i pray for things i need help with. i pray to strengthen my relationship. i pray so that God's will for my life is more clear to me. those are some of the reasons i pray.

I think it was the movie, "Beckett", where the young man said, "Are you so silly as to think your prayers will change God's mind?" and the father replied, "Son, I do not pray so that God will change to suit me, I pray so that I will change to suit God".

I pray 'cause I love Him.
