Why Do You Have Your Job

That's very kind and noble of you. Though I obviously don't know you at all, I pray all goes well and may God be somehow glorified through it all.

i work at chic fil a making $7.50 an hour as a team leader. basically i manage a crew of people from like 3 to 8 people on particular days. its tough but i am not going to do it forever. im thinking of working for Progress Energy (electrical job) and not going to college. i don't know yet. whatever the Lord wants of me. i just don't know if college is for me.

My dream job was to be an architect. I wanted to be an architect so bad, that I had the tri-angle and T-square engraved on my class ring.

To make a long story short, as of yesterday, I do not have a job anymore. Though I was providing software support for medical imaging software. I actually enjoyed it and looked forward to coming to work each day. Though due to the available of jobs throughout the IT industry in my area, I forgot a lot of the stuff I supposedly learned back in '02.

Well mostly because my pops worked there so he hooked me up. Prefferably though I'd want to be traveling and playing music everywhere. Or making music at home and digital design work as well.

I have my job because I for some reason actually thought working at the pet shop would be fun. I don't work w/ the animals though, I work at the cash register, and in reality I don't mind that. The only thing that makes me not like my job is the people I have to work w/.

To pay the bills.

Unfortunately, I'm one of those people who has so many strong interests that it's hard to put all my eggs in one basket. I was going to be an engineer, had a music scholarship, became a communications major (and loved it!), earned my first BA, started studying architecture (which I plan on picking up again sometime this year), ended up spending much time drawing cartoons and comic strips (something I never realistically thought I'd be doing at the semi-professional level I'm at now), did customer service for a while, and am presently working in the healthcare field in a relatively non-engaging capacity.

I'm presently thingking about pursuing a teaching job at a local 'middle college'. The concept behind middle college is fairly new to me, but it essentially gives gifted and 'at risk' students an opportunity to bypass High School while earning transferable college credits.

I work at a church-run childcare. I love it so much. Not because it is church-run so much, although that is a bonus, but because of the kids. I can't remember a time since I was about 10 of not wanting to do something with kids one day. I am going to community college right now to get my degree in child development too. With this I can professionally teach preschool or aid at elementary school. I once thought I'd transfer to a university to get my bachelor's to be able to really teach, but I'm rather satisfied right now, and I've been working there over a year. I will do what the Lord wants me to and strive to be faithful about it! Oh, the pay and benefits ARE pretty good for me even as a part-time person, but I can honestly say the time with "my kids" is more rewarding than money (but I wouldn't do it for free everyday either!).

hey, you sound a lot like me, I teach Sunday school and I just completed my Early Childhood Education and Care.

Teaching is a genetic disorder. My wife has it too. I tried it for about 12 weeks, then I had to leave it.
The job is hard, the pay sucks, and no one gives a flying flip. Without God in the mix, it really has gone to .... in a handbasket.

How did I get here?

I held several jobs in college. I finally got my degree in Mathematics, and tried to be an Actuary, but I had too much personality for the job. I took a job in the lending deparetment of a credit union. I got myself fired from that job (personal problems). I tried to teach, but had to give that up after 12 weeks. I cried when I lost my 5th grade class. They were stinkers, but they were my stinkers. I went back to school while at the credit union, and got a MA in management. I found myself as a security guard at a resort, two years on third shift. I lost that job for personal problems, which I finally sought treatment for. I completed my MBA last year. I eventually got my big break, and was hired as a statistician for the State of Tennessee. I'm just grateful to be a professional. I bring in the benefits, while my wife brings in the better bucks as a salesperson.

That's not the whole story, but there's most of it.

In high school, I had NO clue what I wanted to do. I had about ZERO life skills. I knew that if I went to college, I would get some cheesy degree and not know what to do with it. I also felt very strongly about the military, and was going to join whether I went to college or not. I applied for an ROTC scholarship. I got accepted into the schools that I applied to, but I didn't get accepted into ROTC. I was already in delayed entry, so I went ahead with that. I went to boot camp a month after I graduated. It was my intention to have 6 years to think my life over and decide what I wanted to do. I was going to get out and use my MGIB money for college. My plans have changed since then. I have re-enlisted, which will take me out to my 10-year point. If I choose to get out at that point, I will have my degree finished, and I will have some various qualifications that will be very beneficial on a resume. And the pay is pretty darn good for a person in my shoes. I am single and share an apartment with a friend of mine. I have only been in for 4 years. And I have very few expenses, and I gross about $41,000 a year. And they gave me a $53,612.99 bonus for re-enlisting. Plus free medical and dental. So the navy is treating me pretty well. I wouldn't be surprised if I re-enlist stay in and retire (but I really don't plan on that. Having a regular job where I don't go out to sea, and where I can have my hair and facial hair however I want it sounds pretty appealing).

In a way, it is kind of fulfilling a childhood dream. I used to be a HUGE fan of Popeye. I would have my mom buy me canned spinach when I was little, and I had Popeye curtains in my bedroom.

I still don't really know what I want to do when I get out. But I have 6 more years to figure that out.
