why do we need to pray?

Eunice communication with God is similar to communication with humans.People close to you frequently know what's on your mind,sometimes just by looking at your facial expression,but it still helps to verbally express your thoughts in order to maintain good interpersonal,or in the case of your question,intergod relations.In addition,when we verbally say what is on our minds,we elaborate on our silent thoughts,add emotion to our words and sometimes change or modify them.In reference to prayers,elaboration and emotion are important because its been my experience that emotion-ladden prayers are given a higher priority and most importantly,prayers are frequently answered exactly as they are worded.Silent thoughts have various wordings and in my opinion aren't taken seriously by God.I believe He waits for formal communication figuring that it will occur if someone seriously wants His intervention.

Prayer is interaction. If you love someone, you want to talk to them. But it's more than that. It's partaking in the Lord's work. We're actively involving ourselves in battle when we pray. When you pray for someone, God may send this person what he requires. But God doesn't need prayer-we need it. We're involving ourselves in the whole-life activity of glorifying God and taking part in all our purposes. And of course He rewards us for it.

Think of it this way you have personal relationships with your friends. You maintain your frienships by talking to your friends. You quit talking to them they become more like former aquantainces than friends. When someone ask you about someone you haven't spoken to in a long time, you might say "Yeah, we used to be friends, but we haven't talked in a long time".

We have a personal realtionship with God. In order to maintain and build our releationship with God, we need to talk to Him. We do that by praying.

Dear Eunice, my predecessors here have stated it quite eloquently. Also think of this, Jesus is our Bridegroom. What Bride would not want to talk with her Beloved??? Jesus is our soon-coming Bridegroom and HE loves us with such passion HE sacrificed His life for us! I don't know about you but that makes me want to KNOW this incredible Lord who loves me, of all people, ME. I WANT to talk to someone that loves me that much! Be blessed little Sister! {{{hug}}}

i agree with the earlier posts that we need to fellowship with God for relationship and intamicy sake.
you need to fellowship and pray to the Lord so you can know him through relationship.

but that is simply not the only reason we christians need to pray.

terrible things happen in this world, people do not receive what God desires for them to have, people do not receive the things that they greatly desire from God...

why?
becuase people do not pray, and are not commited to the battle and hardships of prayer.
james 4.2
"Ye lust and HAVE NOT; ye kill and desire to have, AND CANNOT OBTAIN; ye fight and war; yet YE HAVE NOT BECUASE YE ASK NOT.


james was saying these people desired things, maybe provisions or whatever, and they simply did not have them so they resorted to fighting in order to obtain them, and said the reason they do not have what they desired is simply becuase they did not ask God for them. and as you can see in the next verse, when they did ask, they asked for the wrong reasons.

probrably everyone has heard of the whole armour of God as seen in ephesians 6.11-17
ya know the helmet of salvation
the breastplate of righteousness
etc
but few people go and teach the next verse, verse 18.
"PRAYING ALWAYS, WITH ALL PRAYER AND SUPPLICATION IN THE SPIRIT, AND WATCHING THEREUNTO WITH ALL PERSERVERANCE AND SUPPLICATION FOR ALL SAINTS."

God has given you spiritual weapons and armor so that the devil will not destroy you and your family and your possesions, but truthfully, non of them will ever work without prayer, persistent commited passionate prayer.
there are things God wants for you, desires of you, he has great plans for you, but without prayer you will never receive any of it.

GOD ALREADY KNOWS WHAT WE THINK AND NEED... RIGHT?

HE CERTAINLY DOES, but this does not mean you do not need to pray for those things, and ask God directly for them. or that he will give it to you becuase he knows you need it. he will not. you have to ask.

i can prove it in this verse.
psalm 2.7-8
the Lord hath said THOU ART MY SON...ASK OF ME, AND I SHALL GIVE THEE THE HEATHEN FOR THYNE INHERITANCE, AND THE UTTERMOST PARTS OF THE EARTH FOR THY POSSESION.

we are reading God the father speaking to Jesus
(only before he ever came to the earth, God gave us a picture of it ahead of time)
and God directly tells the Son that he wants him to have all of this stuff, BUT HE HAS TO ASK HIM FOR IT.
If the father said to Jesus, "YOU HAVE TO ASK, period" then he is saying the same to us today.

we do not receive from God without prayer.
That is how God has chosen to work in this earth, why? i dont know.
but if even Jesus had to pray and ask for things, then there is no way we can receive if we dont ask.
over and over and over we hear Jesus saying " ASK and it shall be given...KNOCK it and it shall be opened, SEEK and you shall find. "
ASK, ASK, ASK.
"whatever you ASK the father in my name...."

im telling you, there are storehouses in heavon full of your stuff, but you will never get any of it if you dont learn to pray and ask for them personally.

prayer is what keeps your kids well.
prayer is what will keep you financaily stable.
prayer is what will make sure you always have enough.
even though God already knows you need them.
but he does not give what is not asked for.

when you do not pray, you tie the hands of God in your life.
if there is anything you need from God, you have to pray for it to receive it. and also, you have to be commited to keep praying untill it comes.
most people pray and then their stuff is sent, but they stop praying before it reaches them.
you have to be commited to prayer, it can be very hard because the devil is not going to roll over and let you have that stuff your praying for, he wil resist it. true prayer is a war, becuase it can be ruff.

you have to pray to receive what God wants to give you.
and you have to be commited to prayer and to keep on praying no matter what or how long to see it come to pass.
you have to have the mindset, IM GOING TO GET WHAT I NEED BECUASE I WILL NOT LIVE WITHOUT IT, OR I WILL DIE TRYING TO GET IT.
people find that it can be very hard and say it isnt worth it, but it isnt that prayer doesnt work.

why do christians need to pray?

matthew 5.13
Ye are the salt of the earth, but if the salt has lost his savour
wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.

just like salt preserves food, but if the salt doesnt do its job the food is ruined and destroyed, you are the salt that is supposed to preserve this world and your people, but if you do not do your job the earth and its people will be ruined and destroyed.

im telling you that
YOU AND YOUR PRAYERS TO GOD ARE THE ONLY THAT STANDS BETWEEN THIS EARTH AND PEOPLE, AND THE TOTAL DEATH AND ANNIHLATION OF YOUR PEOPLE, THAT SATAN DESIRES TO BRING.

you must pray.

i remember a lady who had begun to hate the Lord, becuase her neice or nephew was burned alive in a burning car, she could not understand why God let it happen.
but the truth is, someone wasnt praying for that child, and satan who has dominion on this earth since adams fall had free access to destroy.

Prayer can be humbling...
You let God know that u are aware of needing him, that u know he is there always...& 2 never take him for granted...
