Hello all

This post is really part venting/part seeking a serious answer....although I don't know that there is one...

Why do some guys feel that its necessary to pay a 'compliment' by whistling at you or discussing you loudly with their friends? I'm not guy bashing, honest, its just I've had my perfectly pleasent evening stroll in the park ruined by a group of such individuals. Ugh.

I just don't get how thats supposed to work...

Well, it DOES get your attention, doesn't it?

I don't do that myself. I had a friend who did all sorts of catcalls when his girlfriend approached though.

lol that it does.....there has to be a better way tho, no?

Yeah, that kind of behavior doesn't usually receive much more than an eyebrow raise or an eye roll from me. I just chalk it up to them being adolescents lacking in tact that haven't learned how to communicate like adults.

Now I do have a friend that does that to get my attention sometimes, but it's different when that familiarity exists.

Work it baby,,work it!!!

I always say stuff like that to gf's. Its good to let them know you're still attracted to them in an immature but fresh kinda way. (maybe a little embarassing too)

Honestly, i think its manly a cultural thing. Here in the south guys honk horns at girls and whistle. I almost never saw that in my 22 yrs as a NY'er.
In Mexico its a standard practice. In Europe it is not,,,except of course for Italy.

But basically it all boils down to this,,, guys are idiots and we want attention from attractive females. I don't partake in this activity with strangers at all but i know why guys do it.

I honestly just think that guys do it because they aren't bright enough to think of any other way to get a girls attention.
maybe...but "Men as an organization have more people looking into it than any other organization" - Jerry Seinfeld (re: how men get women's attention).

I honestly don't know why guys do that, I just walk past them and pretend like I don't hear them. Or I just look at them and glare, or I say something really rude, to get them to leave me alone, like "Hello?!" in a sarcastic tone, it really works. Sometimes it kinda scares me when guys do that, especially if they're trashy, cause if i'm alone, no telling what might happen, u know? It' slike, can they not just give a compliment, by saying something worth hearing instead of whistling or growling? it's sick.

Sometimes we try to give a compliment to girls and they just do not accept it at all.

I don't think it's as horrible as apparently some of the other girls here do.

What ever really comes of it? Nothing. But regardless, it is a sign of appreciation of beauty... so what if they don't know a better way to express that? They are simply appreciating something they like, so relax, take it for that, and don't worry about it. In most cases you're never going to see the guy again, so who cares?
