Genesis 4:
It seemed that Abel offered his best with faith and Cain didn't. Cain acted unrighteously:
8 Now Cain said to his brother Abel, “Let’s go out to the field.” While they were in the field, Cain attacked his brother Abel and killed him.

Hebrews 11:
4a By faith Abel brought God a better offering than Cain did. By faith he was commended as righteous

Cain did not offer in righteous faith. Abel did.

(Perhaps)

Cain was a vegetarian tribe. He worked the ground to produce more food.
Abel was a meat-eater tribe.

Genesis 4:8
Now Cain said to his brother Abel, “Let’s go out to the field.” While they were in the field, Cain attacked his brother Abel and killed him.

First war between men.

Or maybe women born was not worthy to be recorded. Therefore we do not know how many women was born before Cain & Abel.

Cain did not offer in righteous faith. Abel did.
We are told in Genesis 4:7 "If you act rightly, you will be accepted; but if not, sin lies in wait at the door: its urge is for you, yet you can rule over it.". David and Paul talk about what it means to be right before God. David makes it clear that we benefit the most from being right with God. This is wild when you look at the story of David and Bathsheba and her husband. Still we are told that even though David was a man of blood, he still had a desire to know God.

It seems to me that Cain's offering was rejected because he did not offer it with a generous heart or because his offering was not his very best produce. 2 Corinthians 8:1-5

Genesis 4:3-8 In the course of time Cain brought to the Lord an offering of the fruit of the ground, 4 and Abel brought of the firstlings of his flock and of their fat portions. And the Lord had regard for Abel and his offering, 5 but for Cain and his offering he had no regard. So Cain was very angry, and his countenance fell. 6 The Lord said to Cain, “Why are you angry, and why has your countenance fallen? 7 If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin is couching at the door; its desire is for you, but you must master it.” 8 Cain said to Abel his brother, “Let us go out to the field.” And when they were in the field, Cain rose up against his brother Abel, and killed him.
