Ordinarily, one is not successful right outta the gate, b u t, ‘twas a mere jest, a bauble, rhetoric, even.I wasn't aware that Edison's hands were idle. I think he was a successful businessman.
Did you ever think that maybe we’re a capitalist society because we’ve been a capitalist society for too long? Or just “too long to change anything now”?
This one will get me in alot of trouble with posters to this forum but I am dumbfounded as to why anybody is pushing for Universal Basic Income. Is this where capitalism is taking us? As Christians we know that we will need to work everyday (except Sundays and possibly Saturdays (of course, there are always the home choirs)). And work makes people happy alot of times (except when your boss is a micro-managing slave driver). They feel a sense of accomplishment when they do meaningful work and feel like they are contributing to helping out others. I'm sure there are some out there who disagree with me and that is ok with me; I'm no expert in work studies.
My question to those who support Capitalism (the way we have it in America today): why are we trying to do away with millions of jobs for the sake of saving money (by being more efficient?) and then turn around to pay those workers to just stay home? Sure they could take a meaningful hobby like bird watching, knitting, painting, day traders, or my favorite amateur archeologist but ...
We need an economic system that pays ALL workers a living wage (or more) and we need to get rid of some of this automation and go back to real workers manning those jobs. Universal Basic Income is an idiotic solution to helping out the working person.
The YouTube video I provided I found informative and interesting BUT I have no idea whether this lady is a decent person to take advice from. Also, sorry about her scantly dress, she usually dresses more conservatively.
The only reason you’re not involved in drunken debauchery, drugs or crime is because you have to show up for work?
People don't commit crime due to lack of money? Got a citation for that because crime is highly correlated with poverty so you will need some pretty convincing evidence.
You don’t have any goals or aspirations outside of your job? No one is proposing people not work. UBI as proposed either barely pays bills or doesn’t pay enough to live. But people could choose to work less, which would be good. More time with families and to focus on personal development isn’t a bad thing. Most of us work too much, not too little.
Why do you think that people who don’t have to work or work less would be less moral?
One of the benefits of living an aesthetic lifestyle is that fasting is often a part of that, even in the Christian tradition there is a call for fasting. No of course not. LOL But I'm a Christian, I believe in God and morals. But since they taught society not to believe in God and that they can do whatever they want when they want etc. and when you add that to people not having to go in to work, that's a bad combination. People who already drink and do those things usually tone it down during the week when they know they have to get up for work the next day. But if no one is working and people can get up whenever they want, they can stay out all night every night partying. Most people in their free time don't knit or crochet or read a book or pray, they go out partying and socializing watching porn and going on dating apps. So if they have nothing but free time on their hands, those are the things they will do but multiplied by 100.
Sure they do. As society and my echanization grows so do other kinds of jobs. Remember when buggy's were do continued? Car manufacturing became automated, but other jobs opened up.
Now in society we have MORE jobs than people willing to work them. We aren't having fewer and fewer jobs with more and more people out of work because all their jobs are being automated.
I meant not ALL crimes. Crimes of passion because of a cheating boyfriend and things like that have nothing to do with money.
Ah, of course. It's "their" fault. No of course not. LOL But I'm a Christian, I believe in God and morals. Why not?And I hate to tell you, but Jesus would not want good healthy people sitting playing games all day.
This sounds really authoritarian and creepy. Work is to earn money to live a happy life- not a tool by those in power to keep people off the street because ‘some people’ think you might be up to no good (and a ‘no good’ defined only by ‘some people’).It won't make them less moral, those who are already less moral will have more time to do their immoral deeds.
Ah, yes, your inferiors are the issue. No of course not. LOL But I'm a Christian, I believe in God and morals. 16 hour shifts would make more sense. Imagine how much all us immoral plebs will dial back the drinking and debauchery if we have so little time to ourselves. It won't make them less moral, those who are already less moral will have more time to do their immoral deeds.
What I think would be better is making it so that a work week is 20 hours instead of 40 hours. People should work 4 hours a day instead of 8. That would be more beneficial. That's just enough hours to keep people structured and grounded with responsibility but also give enough time for rest and recreation. But everyone sitting around not working all day every day will be a disaster. God created us to work not sit around all day.

This is not most people. There is an entire world between those extremes and most people reside in that world. Most people in their free time don't knit or crochet or read a book or pray, they go out partying and socializing watching porn and going on dating apps. Why not give those on the 16h shift compulsory room and board when they are not working? That’d keep those rascals from not working and having fun.16 hour shifts would make more sense. This thinking is part of why America has such massive income inequality and poverty levels.God created us to work not sit around all day.
With our Christian betters supervising to keep us in line of course. Why not give those on the 16h shift compulsory room and board when they are not working? That’d keep those rascals from not working and having fun.
