  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Why did God create Hell if he wishes no one to perish? 2 Peter 3:9

Hi It's because even though God wants everyone to be saved, we are given a choice to either accept or reject salvation. We are spiritually dead and this is the only way to become alive. But not everyone accepts it, and those who are still 'spiritually dead' at the Last Judgement would go to hell. It's not a punishment, but a result of our sin. God loves everyone, including people in hell, but not everyone accepts His love...I guess free will was a risk He was willing to take, so that He would have free followers.

You would probably get different answers to this...this is my view of it.

God bless!

I personally don't believe there is such thing as Hell.
I think this is a Christian doctrine made to instill fear and guilt into people, and keep them coming to church.
Also, I think it is very simplistic.
Fire is a physical, earthly thing, and we're talking about a spiritual dimension.
I also think the doctrine of Hell contradicts who God is said to be in the Bible, and who I know Him to be, and also I have noticed it is often humans who judge who it is who will be going to Hell.

Just my opinion though! I understand that many people on here will believe differently, and I totally respect that.

Peace and love.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but Jesus taught extensively on Hell. So if you are going to hold to that belief, you will have to discard quite a bit of scriptures to do so. Also it would make Jesus death and horrible suffering on the cross all for nothing. Jesus died and suffered so that we could be saved from Hell, if it does not exist, then Jesus died in vain.

Some scripture about death and hell.

There are two main deaths discussed in the bible.

1) Physical death:

Genesis 25:17
Altogether, Ishmael lived a hundred and thirty-seven years. He breathed his last and died, and he was gathered to his people.

Hebrews 9:27-28
Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment, so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many people; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him

2) Second death, the spiritual one after physical death:

Revelation 21:8
But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars—their place will be in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death."

Revelation 20:14-15
Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death. If anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.

What sin would cause one to not be written in the book of life?

Mark 3:28-29
I tell you the truth, all the sins and blasphemies of men will be forgiven them. But whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven; he is guilty of an eternal sin."

Luke 13:23-28
Someone asked him, "Lord, are only a few people going to be saved?"
He said to them, "Make every effort to enter through the narrow door, because many, I tell you, will try to enter and will not be able to. Once the owner of the house gets up and closes the door, you will stand outside knocking and pleading, 'Sir, open the door for us.'
"But he will answer, 'I don't know you or where you come from.'

"Then you will say, 'We ate and drank with you, and you taught in our streets.'
"But he will reply, 'I don't know you or where you come from. Away from me, all you evildoers!'
"There will be weeping there, and gnashing of teeth, when you see Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and all the prophets in the kingdom of God, but you yourselves thrown out.

I agree. If we say that there's no Hell, then we're making Christ out to be a liar for telling us that there is a Hell, and a fool for dying to rescue people from a Hell that doesn't exist.

Jesus said that there is a Hell and, since He's the one who created it and has said that He's the one who's going to send people there, I'm going to have to go with Him on this one.

Why is it that people will not accept even the most basic of Biblical concepts, such as Heaven and Hell?

Because accepting the Biblical teaching of Heaven and Hell leads right back to the necessity of the cross and the cross is always going to be an offense to those who are walking after the flesh.

Although, in her case, I'd be willing to give her the benefit of the doubt and say that she was just discipled very poorly.

I think it's also because when we have family who die as unbelievers and it's hard to imagine them going through eternity in hell.

Regardless, we should not question God's righteous judgements. If we believe the bible we should believe it all. We cannot pick and choose what we like and don't like, that is not for us to decide. We need to take up our cross daily...and follow him.

Well I'm a disciple of Jesus Christ, so if you have a problem you'll have to take it up with Him.
I am finally learning to rely on Christ alone for my doctrine, and not man or the man-made church to tell me what to believe.

I'm not going to argue with you, because I respect what you believe.

God's blessings to you all.

I'm not the one with the problem with Christ's teachings, you are.

Jesus taught that there is a real, literal, eternal, fiery place of punishment. You say that there isn't.

Jesus said that He came to save sinners from Hell. You say that He didn't.

So, to say that you're "relying on Christ" for your doctrine is false.

May I ask, if you don't believe in Hell, why did Jesus go to the cross and why did He say that He's going to send the wicked to Hell?

WarEagle, arguments solve nothing. Bickering helps no one, upbuilds and uplifts no one, and I am not telling you that you are wrong for believing what you believe.

I know Him personally, I rely on the words written on my heart.

May His love and peace be with you and guide you.

So then, I'm right when I say that Jesus taught that there is a Hell?

I know Him personally, I rely on the words written on my heart.

Maybe that's the problem. The Bible tells us that the heart is deceitful and wicked. So why would you chose to follow it over God's word?

If there is no Hell, then why did Jesus go to the cross? Why did He teach that there is a Hell and that He's going to send the wicked to Hell?

Jesus certainly declared there is such a place as "the firey hell." Mt 5:22 "But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother shall be guilty before the court; and whoever says to his brother, `You good-for-nothing,' shall be guilty before the supreme court; and whoever says, `You fool,' shall be guilty enough to go into the fiery hell.

If we don't believe Jesus' words about "the firey hell," why should we believe His words about heaven?
