I believe that they took that into account.

That might be true of the equations of Smolin, however, most of the peer group didn't have issue with those calculations. Ingrained within the mathematics were alternate universes. I am not as mathematical minded as our Professor here, so I really can't say personally just how accurate that assessment was. We do however know the needed requirements for life in this universe and what it would have done if the smallest measure was differed in its creation.

We don't know that at all. We can speculate, but there's no way of knowing what variables we're missing. It's a calculation without all the data, and with no way of testing. It's worthless.

Also, if the chances of a universe with life is one in a trillion and there have been 10 trillion universes then our universe is not that improbable. It is the same as the lottery example.

Well considering we have no evidence for anymore than the one we have what do you say?

I would say that we need evidence that other universes do not exist before we can make any probability calculations.

The book has been reviewed by Physicists that would most certainly make known if the numbers Smolin used were not accurate.

Where did Smolin show that God designed the Universe?

The speed at which light propagates through transparent materials, such as glass or air, is less than c. For example, for visible light the refractive index of glass is typically around 1.5, meaning that light in glass travels at c / 1.5 ≈ 200,000 km/s; the refractive index of air for visible light is 1.000293, so the speed of light in air is 299,705 km/s or about 88 km/s slower than c.
In most practical cases, light and other electromagnetic waves can be thought of as moving "instantaneously", but for long distances and very sensitive measurements their finite speed has noticeable effects. For example, in videos of an intense lightning storm on the Earth's surface taken from the International Space Station, the expansion of light wavefronts from individual flashes of lightning is clearly visible, and allows estimates of the speed of light to be made from frame-to-frame analysis of the position of the light wavefront. This is not surprising, as the time for light to propagate completely around the Earth is of the order of 140 milliseconds. This transit time is what causes the Schumann resonance. In communicating with distant space probes, it can take minutes to hours for a message to get from Earth to the spacecraft, or vice versa. The light we see from stars left them many years ago, allowing us to study the history of the universe by looking at distant objects. The finite speed of light also limits the theoretical maximum speed of computers, since information must be sent within the computer from chip to chip. Finally, the speed of light can be used with time of flight measurements to measure large distances to high precision.
Ole Rømer first demonstrated in 1676 that light travelled at a finite speed (as opposed to instantaneously) by studying the apparent motion of Jupiter's moon Io. In 1865, James Clerk Maxwell proposed that light was an electromagnetic wave, and therefore travelled at the speed c appearing in his theory of electromagnetism.[3] In 1905, Albert Einstein postulated that the speed of light with respect to any inertial frame is independent of the motion of the light source,[4] and explored the consequences of that postulate by deriving the special theory of relativity and showing that the parameter c had relevance outside of the context of light and electromagnetism. More importantly, how did you even determine that the universe was designed for us?

As we have discovered more and more fundamental physical principles they seem to have less and less to do with us. To take one example, in the early 1920s it was thought that the only elementary particles were the electron and the proton, then considered to be the ingredients from which we and our world are made. When new particles like the neu­tron were discovered it was taken for granted at first that they had to be made up of electrons and protons. Matters are very different today. We are not so sure anymore what we mean by a particle being elementary, but we have learned the important lesson that the fact that particles are present in ordinary matter has nothing to do with how fundamental they are. That is unfalsifiable. There would be no way to determine if there really were or not. In your worldview that is unacceptable.
