To put it differently:

Sociopathy will probably contribute to your personal well-being and prosperity, but will almost inevitably doom your bloodline in the long run. Thus, those who cooperate with others and are able to sacrifice immediate personal gain shall prevail in the long run.

Of course, if one is slightly more paranoid, one might also come to the conclusion that all of these passages about meekness and obedience were written by those who had an interest in preserving the status quo, namely those who are definitely NOT meek and without ambition, but who profit from the passivity of their subservients.

Jane,

Slightly less cynical (your idea is certainly not paranoid)...

The gospels seem to be aimed at the disenfranchised masses, promising rewards in another life though they get diddly in this one. Many of the characters aren't painted in a very favourable light, with even the disciples not able to figure out just what the heck Jesus is on about (asking him "what up wit dem parables, J-man?").

Who recognizes Jesus first? It isn't his disciples, in fact some of them don't recognize him or don't believe he could come back. It's even a group of women who first notice that he has risen. I mean, women! Can you get any more meek than that?

Maybe the authors of the gospels tossed out a few bones to the meek. God knows they could do with a couple of treats. It couldn't hurt - they wouldn't know what to do with real influence anyway, bless their impotent little hearts.

I believe that I have a slightly different approach to answering this question.

Rather than look around the Earth for the meekest people, I asked myself, “Who will be inheriting the Earth?” Whoever they are, they must be the meek.

On possible answer to this question is based on the belief of some Christians that, before the end-times and the final judgment, those people who are saved will be physically transported into heaven. Thus, the meek are the ones who remain on Earth. The meek are the spiritually meek.

There is a second way that the spiritually meek can inherit the Earth. This could happen if the spiritually strong stopped having children. Far fetched? Maybe not. After all, having children is an indication that a person has some interest in the material world. Thus, large numbers of people who are sufficiently spiritual would be celibate.

There is a third way that the spiritually weak can inherit the world. In the extreme scenario of the spiritual versus the material, the more materialistic people would kill off the more spiritual. These materialistic (or spiritually meek) people would, therefore, inherit the Earth.

In these first three ways at looking at the meek, the meek are those people who are spiritually meek.

There is also a more scientific approach. If we assume that our scientific knowledge and advanced technology will continue, then it is only a matter of time before people start setting up permanent colonies on other planets. If this happens, the meek would be the people who refuse to leave Earth.

The sermon showed how a person who is in right relationship with God should conduct his life. While the passage must be understood in the light of the offer of the messianic kingdom, the sermon applies to Jesus’ followers today for it demonstrates the standard of righteousness God demands of His people.__________________________________________________Those who are meek (v. 5) are truly humble and gentle and have a proper appreciation of their position. Dear peale, Jesus was meek, loving and patient, and not afraid to speak up for what He thought was right. His life was filled with love for God, and love for all human-beings, even His enemies. To be meek is the opposite of pride, brute strenght, and SELF-righteousness. Love is the greatest weapon, which patience can use, it will always win in the end, and the meek person is always the one who rules his, or her character. The meek, the patient, kind and lovings ones, will inherit the Earth, because MEEKNESS will endure and conquer. I say this humbly and kindly, peale, and send greetings. Emmy, sister in Christ.

Dear peale, I have been reading your replies again, and alhough to be meek, is a quite a few things, I have come to the conclusion, " meek is the opposite of proud, and pride is one of the seven deadly sins." Jesus is the best example, He had every reason to be proud to be the Saviour of Mankind, but He told his followers He came to Earth to serve, to show us what real Meekness is, namely to do the Will of the Father. All who are truly meek, will inherit the Earth, will have Life Abundantly. I say this humbly and kindly, peale, and send greetings. Emmy, sister in Christ. P.S. Jesus was meek, but He was also strong and outspoken, when He told the Pharisees off, for being Hypocrites.

Jesus said the meek will inherit the earth. What does this mean to you?

It means the bold will reach the stars.

In this apparently a "sociopath" is the "meek". More specifically, the meek are they who do not force their will on others.

It is the meek who truly know God. They will inherit the earth and many other wonderful things!

The dominant will gain during their life, the religious hope to gain in the afterlife.

Both hope to exercise their intense desire.

The reigious seek endless and permanent pleasure at others expense, whilst the dominant seek to exercise power at others expense.

IN the bible God says he hates arrogance and that the proud will fall. Meekness is humility...thus...in the end the proud will be destroyed by God, but the meek will the ones to recieve reward and get what the Lord wants them to get.
