Nice looking dog. Looks like a lot of fine hair though ....
This is my dog. He has 10 months now:
BTW, we should start a sailing thread, as we've (I have) derailed this one enough....sory GCC.
New sailing thread here: Mark's Sailing Thread... All Sailors and Interested Persons are Welcome!
Is that a golden? We had one for years.
Haha, no problem. I'd love to learn more about boats, anyway. Went sailing a few times in my teens with friends of my parents, the Boy Scouts, and Annapolis midshipmen. Loved it, but haven't been since.

I get asked that often. No, it is a Hovawart, see Hovawart Breed Introduction
Looks are not dissimilar to the Goldies but very, very different character. With regards to character they are much closer to German Sheperds. They are working dogs, guard dogs, can even be used as security dogs and are successful in Schutzhund competitions.
I took the photo with the boat for making a joke in an email that I sent to the breeder in Germany. Hof means farm or estate in German, Wart means guard. So Hovawart is the guard of the estate or farm. The German word for boatman however is Bootswart.
lab + shepherd = lepherdAw! That's adorable. Is she a lab?

She was more shepherd as a puppy and then kinda grew into her labbiness.
Ha, nice. A golden that's useful. Sounds great.
A "Bootswarthund"!
Amphibious dog?
If the kids survive his adolescence...
I sometimes wish we had a goldie. Not a dog that needs to be reminded of his place every other day. This first time he jumped into the pizza courier's back and tried to bite into the guy's neck, I realized he is not your normal kind of family pet...
Actually some of the dogs they crossed to create the breed were Newfoundlanders, see Hovawart Information and Pictures, Hovawarts. Hovawarts are pretty rubbish at swimming though. Mine only goes in chasing ducks or swans. They protect your boat though ...
Oh geez, right. I even already commented on that. I guess I was just overwhelmed by the cuteness of the KFC bucket!
Did you actually give her KFC food? Or was the bucket empty?
Relax. The bucket was empty. She was merely licking the grease.
They love raw stuff, don't they. It is most natural but it does make them vicious. I have tried raw, minced chicken and rabbit. My dog, Inuk Isidor vom Widdereck or Ben for short, likes it a lot and I feel it is much better for him than the complete foods. But he gets wilder and mouthier.
Our pet shop sells the left-over bones from Parma and Serrano ham. Ham that is carved off the bone. It actually says "Mediratenean cuisine" on the packing. My dog goes crazy for them. Absolutely crazy. He does not just gnaw the meat off that is still left on it, he actually eats the bones. Cracks it into pieces and swallows them. Nothing wasted.
I think it's kinda gross myself.
I know what you mean. It is those moments when we realize that our pets are really predators. When I see my dog cracking bones that are thicker than an inch, I do sometimes get an uneasy feeling.
Who let that wolf in?
Why did you name it Whiskey?
