I think this is what is being referred to:

Romans 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

This one is a bit chicken and egg, the one leads to the other and both are conditional each other. The whole thing works to gether. It is part of this faith and works deal:

Jas 2:17 In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.

Part of that action is meeting with fellow Christians whether you like them or not.
Having said that if you were on your own on a desert island, I'm sure you could still pray and relate to God. I expect he would have you pray for the rest of the church while you were having plenty of time alone together.

I heartily disagree. The only way to heaven is through a personal relationship with Jesus. There is no question about which is more important. As for going to church, there are many, many, many people who go to church who will never form a personal relationship with Christ, precisely because most of the major churches teach that people are already saved through baptism. No, going to church doesn't necessarily lead to salvation.

I'd say that having a relationship with God is most important.
But the Bible also says that we should not neglect coming together; it should also be a part of a christian to fellowship with other belivers.
In as much as christianity is a one mans decision, one can't make it through the journey alone.

I can't remember where this verse is but I think it says somethg like this-Iron sharpens iron, one man sharpens another. It's somewhere in proverbs.

I would say that the personal relationship is more important. I see the church as a place where we as christians meet, but it is just a building, but often it is good to hear what ministers have to say.

I would say having a personal relationship. Many people go to church all week long and fellowship from noon until midnight and have more of a relationship with the people of the church than with the God of the church.

without doubt having a personal relationship with God and learning what it is God wants you to learn.
for if you learnt all God wanted to teach you ,think how much you could help others to come to God with that wisdom ,and having that personal relationship with God you'd always know how to use this knowledge for good.
you would not think you were great of yourself with your knowledge but would know it of God and glorify Him for it.
where as going to church and having fellowship with others ,you may never truly find God and only go as a duty to your own mind ,to think you've done your bit to serve God.

Obviously no matter how much you attend church, if you don't have a personal relationship with Christ it does you no good. Therefore, a personal relationship is most important and it comes first and foremost.

Can a person be a Christian and not go to church? Sure, but I question their motivations for not attending. Is it because you don't want to give up sleeping in on Sundays or because you don't like "organized religion"? It depends on what the circumstances are for the person not attending. I know that my walk is not strengthened unless I am in the presence and in fellowship with my brothers and sisters in Christ. God commands us to have that fellowship because He knows that is not only edifying to Christ, but edifying to the body. It also lifts us up and holds us accountable.
