Which Bible version do you use as your primary one and secondary one? I'm using the NIV and I don't intend to do in depth studies for now so I hope its a good one?

Also, who here believes in entire sanctification? If so could you provide scripture to prove it? I can't accept it since we all still have trouble with sin. Here are my verses I use against it.

1 John 1:8-10

8 If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word has no place in our lives.

King James is my primary, but when I need to see it in a more modern language context I use the NIV. It's also better to use when speaking to someone who doesn't yet know God.
The only problem with the NIV is it has a few mistakes in it. Hence why I rely first on the King James.

No, I don't believe in entire sanctification, at least not here on earth.

May God Richly Bless You! MM

I use the NIV84 as my main bible now. I have a Thompson Chain reference Bible and it is awesome. Has all sorts of study materials in it, really it's like an entire Study Library in one work. I don't think there are any English translations that are perfect, as the originals were. The KJV/NKJV include scriptures and passages that were borrowed from the Latin Vulgate. They were never in the original writings, the translator of the Textus Receptus admitted so himself (The TR are the Greek manuscripts that the KJV/NKJV are translated from if you didn't know). So I don't think there is a perfect English translation. Without the original manuscripts I don't think a perfect is possible, but God can still hit a person with His word and change them, amen?

Since you don't intend to do in-depth studies, the NIV is ok. It's easy to read and does a decent job at capturing the thoughts behind the writers' words.

Having grown up with the KJV, I prefer the NKJV as my primary Bible, closely followed by the HCSB, and I'm getting to like the ESV. If you were going to do studying, you'd want to be referencing several Bibles anyway, not the least of which is the NAS.

While true for the KJV, the NKJV additionally uses recently found manuscript sets as well. Indeed, one of the many things I like about the NKJV is the fact that it indicates other possible renderings due to the MT or LXX as well as stuff coming from the major codices. The NKJV does incorporate new scholarship in addition to looking at the TR.

I use the KJV (since I've been reading it since 1947 or so), and know the language, and the "Work-arounds" for the areas of bad translation. I "Think" in KJV, so no reason to change.

I don't really HAVE a "Secondary" - I use the Hawaiian Pidgin english ("Da Jesus Book"), and the NWT (Watchtower translation) often when teaching - just for shock effect.

"I'm using the NIV and I don't intend to do in depth studies for now so I hope its a good one?"

It's as good as any other. The BEST translation is the one you'll READ.

"Also, who here believes in entire sanctification? If so could you provide scripture to prove it? I can't accept it since we all still have trouble with sin. Here are my verses I use against it."

You might want to read Wesley's thoughts on the subject -
The Wesley Center Online: A Plain Account of Christian Perfection

Wesley seems to have had it right, but the denominational "Improvements" on his concepts are off-base.

It's a Denominational teaching that really isn't based on ANY solid Scriptural basis, and is dying out anyway. Nazarenes and the Church of God still teach it, but the part where the "Sinful Nature is eradicated" is obviously not true, and they're forced to RE-DEFINE "SIN" as limited to "the transgression of a KNOWN commandment" -

Bottom line: the "OLD HUMAN NATURE" NEVER changes, never reforms itself, and remains at enmity with God. And It's ALWAYS up to us to "Crucify the flesh" in the power of the Holy Spirit - by walking in the Spirit instead of walking in OUR OWN human wisdom. It's something that takes practice, and personal discipline, and CAN NOT be accomplished through our own strength.

I read from both the ESV and KJV at the same time. The ESV is by far my favorite translation. It reads best FOR ME (I know some people claim that it's hard to read, but I find no difficulty in reading it; it's right up my alley) and blesses me above all others. I think the KJV is an important translation to know, but difficult to understand at times. I find that reading it with another translation at the same time really works for me. I also like to read from the NRSV with Apocrypha.

Sanctification is a tricky thing. We are 100% spiritually sanctified at salvation: i.e. if we were to die right then, we would be sanctified and go into the presence of God. However, our flesh will never be wholly sanctified until the second coming and resurrection, when we will be give glorified bodies. It is our job to try our best to be holy, acknowledging that we will fall short because of our flesh most of the time.
