  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I use many different versions, though I tend to stay away from paraphrases, but the language of the KJV can't be beat. Many words, such as charity, have such a deeper meaning as they are used in the KJV that are missing from other more modern translations. I am the least fond of the NIV because it, IIRC, took the oldest text as its source instead of the majority text. I may be wrong on that though. Still, I find far too many places it falls short. I prefer Bibles without commentary in them. I have known more than a few who take the commentary as the word of God because it is written in their Bibles plus I would rather not have someone else influencing my initial thoughts concerning a text. I use commentaries on every text but only after I have considered the text without them. Of course after so many years of reading commentaries it is hard now to not be influenced by them when reading a text. I do try though.

This is an inaccurate statement.
AV readings are as old as the corrupted readings for the NIV,and older.
In fact, the AV readings out number the Alexandrian readings by two to one and on important doctrinal verses, the number is three to one.
NIV is owned by Rupert Murdock.[the Simpsons] hint hint.
I call it the Bart bible.
It also had a couple of gays on the staff.

To have the best Bible, one must go to the AV.
The King James Bibles as it is now known.
And in particular, the Pure Cambridge Edition CIRCA 1900.
