I want this to be a happy thread!!!

I love church - the music, worship, prayers and the message. And since I am only one person, I would love to hear the gist (or more) of the message delivered to you this week.

For example, my pastor is in his mid-40's, his wife is 41 and they just became the proud parents of a baby boy - with three other children 12-17. His message was on the fact that there are so many seconds banked for us each day. Per the example of feeding the 5,000 and gathering the remaining loaves and fishes, we should not waste a second of any day. Neither should we become so BUSY that we cannot do as we are commanded in the Bible. I have been wasting a lot of time recently when I should have been doing something more worthy. This hit me where I have been living. \

What did you hear about?

This weeks message was "why bad things happen to good people".
Taken from this bible text.
ECC 8:14 There is something else meaningless that occurs on earth: righteous men who get what the wicked deserve, and wicked men who get what the righteous deserve. This too, I say, is meaningless. 15 So I commend the enjoyment of life, because nothing is better for a man under the sun than to eat and drink and be glad. Then joy will accompany him in his work all the days of the life God has given him under the sun.

ECC 8:16 When I applied my mind to know wisdom and to observe man's labor on earth--his eyes not seeing sleep day or night-- 17 then I saw all that God has done. No one can comprehend what goes on under the sun. Despite all his efforts to search it out, man cannot discover its meaning. Even if a wise man claims he knows, he cannot really comprehend it.

ECC 9:1 So I reflected on all this and concluded that the righteous and the wise and what they do are in God's hands, but no man knows whether love or hate awaits him. 2 All share a common destiny--the righteous and the wicked, the good and the bad, the clean and the unclean, those who offer sacrifices and those who do not.

As it is with the good man,

so with the sinner;

as it is with those who take oaths,

so with those who are afraid to take them.

Well this weeks message was "how a healthy family looks according to the Bible" I liked the message, but I felt stupid listening to the pastor talk about husbands and wives as I'm sitting there by myself. I guess I needed to hear it though.

Ours was on John 3

Jesus said to Nicodemus:

"No one has gone up to heaven except the one who has come down from heaven, the Son of Man. And just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the desert,
so must the Son of Man be lifted up, so that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life."

For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through him.

Hi there!

I heard a tremendous testimony from a minister who said, to the effect....

Why are we so concerned about the ten commandments being posted in our public buildings ... Why are we so concerned about the pledge saying "under God" or our money saying, "in God we truth"

Why are we concerned that prayer has been taken out of our schools, when in fact,

we have removed prayer from our churches. The church isn't praying anymore... why worry about prayer in school when you need to be worrying about getting prayer back into the church.

Whew... powerful message.

WOW!

My church sponsors a community prayer for one hour per week at lunch. The number of people there has dwindled to about 5 steadies. Hmmm!

um.... i'm beginning to notice a pattern in the sunday sermon at church. We always have sermons on the need for evangelism. That may be because it's an evagelical church (in terms of denomination). Anyway, i reckon in terms of sermons, we're really lacking in other areas, which are mostly covered in bible studies after sunday sermon, and in fellowship. I dunno... what if say some people don't go to fellowship?
