Hitokiri Shadow:

Isn't "good video game movie" an oxymoron?

Not necessarily! Certainly, people have done a terrible job with trying to do this. Take Dungeons & Dragons, for example. I did not watch more than 2 minutes of it before I started envisioning what was happening in the movie as happening exactly how it did in the game... it really did not work well. Super Mario Bros.? No. Just no.

If someone were, however, to make an animated video game movie, I'd be more willing to give it a try. Like, I wouldn't be able to wait to see a movie about a brave young character who goes solo to find out who he is and at the same time fight for the good of the beautiful and lush land in which he dwells (I'm talking about Mega Man, if you are wondering. Actually no, it's The Legend of Zelda). That would do well with a 3-d setting... nice textures and all.

For something like Mega Man, I'm thinking "anime" would ... *shudder* suit it. See, I am on the brink of going on a crusade against japanimation. It bothers me to no end. It's like they're not interested in drawing the rest of the frames to make any of the animation believeable or even interesting. Granted, they love their flying robots. But the way Japan's culture is totally immersed in pornography--and violent forms, at that--makes me feel like putting a ban on their entertainment media.

That's why, in any case, I think that style of animation fits well with the robots and all. Maybe once someone dedicates enough time and all to 3-d animation, they could pull off a 3-d Mega Man (apparently, though, I heard the 3-d N64 version was a complete bomb).

Another cool game as a movie? Metroid. These last two would be mostly action. There's not much of a plot to either of them. Zelda nearly fails there, too, but at least it's diversified... um, diversed... whatever that adjective is.

Right, so cheers to the longest post in this thread so far... probably.
