What tags would you like?

Dear World Religions forum.

As you can see you have some other groups also posting here, such as Mormons and Jehovah's Witnesses.

Some of the folks here like debate and some like discussion instead.
The creator of a post would have a choice to make in determining the flavor of a thread.
We created 2 tags, debate and discussion. If you do not know what tags are please ask.

What other tags do you think you might need?

Thanks,
Ed

Under the Outreach heading it states that this is not the place for a debate. Why would either of these two tags be necessary?

:o

Maybe this sub-forums rules should be changed. While the other sub-forums in Outreach are not a place for debate, there is PLENTY of debate already in World Religions and Christianity.

We just added a line in the forum description saying that we have tags for that reason. This was the author of a thread may choose the flavor of his thread.

I know.

So we are trying to add tags so some poster who do not want debates in their threads may choose "discussion" tag. and someone else may choose 'debate" in his thread.

If the rules have been changed, shouldn't that be posted somewhere? Shouldn't the area heading be changed to mention debate is allowed?

As you can see I have a thread here to decide which tags people would like.
Once we have it figured out we can discuss this as well.

And the difference between a discussion and a debate is...?
... good question.

Debate is when you are proving your point or disproving someone else's point. You are not changing your mind because you know you are right and they are wrong.

Discussion is when you come into a thread with an open mind.
You may even change your own view or work together with others to enhance it.
Discussion is brainstorming, developing the idea.
You ask questions in order to learn, not in order to trap someone into a debate.

Maybe we should define the difference someplace, huh?

You wanna work with me on this?

I think I get the idea...

Debate - You are trying to prove your point. You will defend your point and critique others points.

Discussion - You may or may not know your point. You are open to discussing other points. Your intentions aren't to strenuously defend your point, if you even have one.
